MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN BELIZE
Eight years ago, our friend Polly Wood left her London lifestyle behind, arrived in Belize and got a fresh start with a new idea and her keen desire to help the coral reefs. She started a non-profit organization that provides meaningful information about the underwater ecosystem offshore in Belize to the local fisheries department and several NGOs (Non-Gov't Organizations). When she needed help, she advertised for eco-tourists to come visit the reef and to learn and work along side her. As it turns out, lots of people have made a big difference, been a part of new discoveries and had a once-in-a-lifetime experience with ReefCI.
Lindsay and I met Polly two years ago and decided to support her efforts by bringing our charter boat / diving guests to her caye, just offshore from Southern Belize. We would spend the evening visiting with her, learning about her studies and having dinner as part of the charter company's tour. We have remained friends ever since.
Now, ReefCI and Wet Set Diving Adventures are joining forces to make a bigger difference. Polly's studies are taking place at the Southernmost point of the Meso-American Barrier Reef. Our dive shop is located at the Northern end of the same continuous reef system. We are in the beginning stages of a joint effort to increase the amount of scientific data being collected about this wonderful and fragile ecosystem.
In the meantime, we invite you to visit their website at www.reefci.com and learn about the Marine Conservation Diving Trips that they offer in Belize.
