Spring is around the corner and I cannot remember being this excited for a change in weather and getting outdoors more. Although I may practice and teach yoga regularly, eat healthy, do all the "right things" this winter has found me and my family with cold after cold. It is true that when I speak to other experienced parents, who in particular, have more than one child, they all say that this is very normal. And yet it has still made me self reflect; in the ways that I behave, the thoughts in my mind, the energy that I spend, and my self-care regimen. I am practicing putting myself first so that I can then take care of those I love around me and actually have something to give back. This does not always come easy having those life responsibilities of family and work, but I know that if I don't take care of me then everyone else around me will hurt.
What one act can you do today that will make a difference for you and in return those around you?
What structures do you have in place to take care of yourself when you feel emptied?
Who can you surround yourself with to support your self -care regimen?
How would you feel if all your needs were met?
As we fill our own cup we can then look to giving to others.
"Whether you and I and a few others will renew the world some day remains to be seen. But within ourselves we must renew each day." -Herman Hesse
Here at the studio, we are committed to creating change within us and then in turn making a difference in the world around us. Yoga for Fertility With Guest Teacher Lynn Jensen Saturday, March 13 ยท 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Cost: $60 (10% off for members) Yoga for Fertility is designed for women or couples who are trying to conceive, either naturally or through assisted reproductive technology. In a recent Harvard-based study, women participating in a yoga and relaxation program increased their chances of pregnancy by almost 3 times. We will use specific yoga postures for each phase of your monthly cycle, to stimulate and tone the reproductive system. We can also help regulate the body's hormone levels using yoga postures, breathing and relaxation practices which support the endocrine and nervous systems. Yoga is a well-recognized stress-reducer, and chronic stress has been shown to adversely affect fertility. The class environment is small, personal and supportive. No previous yoga experience is necessary. If you are currently taking a general yoga class, it is highly recommended that you attend a session of Yoga for Fertility to learn how to adapt poses during your cycle.

Get to Know Your Community Colleen Gray
Source Yoga: How did you get into yoga? CG: How did I get into yoga? You know how you meet a guy? You maybe think he's cute and sweet but not for you? Not at all? You become friends for a while but lose track of each other. Years later, you meet again by chance. Somehow, you share one powerful kiss and fall madly, hopelessly in love. Yoga was like that for me. The first yoga class I attended was at my gym. We did Shavasana at the beginning and end of class. I never went back because I didn't like all the "waiting around." About five or six years ago, I was coaxed to try a Yogafit class. To me it was an exotic muscle toning class in a darkened room. The instructor was a hoot and offered a challenging workout so I went back. But my alignment! I thought warrior one and triangle pose were easy, if that tells you anything. I took classes off and on for a couple years and even subbed for the instructor a few times (!!!). I lost interest when the she moved to Texas. In October 2008, I thought I was getting a bit stiff. So I wandered into a yoga class at the YMCA taught by Amy Petty. I teasingly call Amy "the yoga gateway drug" because after class I wanted more. Soon I found myself at Source Yoga taking all the classes I could fit into my schedule. I adore all the teachers at Source. Each instructor brings a unique perspective to share and the best of themselves to their classes. And I enjoy the community. Yogis and yoginis rock. SY: Why do you practice yoga?
CG: At first it was all physical. I wanted a challenging workout. 15 months later it is so much more. Yoga develops functional fitness physically, spiritually and emotionally. I am stronger, more flexible, more patient, more spacious, more loving and more joyful each day I practice. SY: What does your practice look like? CG: I don't have a regular home practice, yet, though I do a wee bit of yoga every day if only to warm up before other exercise or to calm down before bed. A full practice hopefully includes some arm balances. I heart arm balances. From the outside in, I suspect that my practice looks like a goofy golden retriever. All happy and sweaty. Okay, dogs don't sweat. But if I was a dog who did yoga, I think I would.
SY: How does your yoga practice affect your life. CG: The more I practice yoga, the more I find to love about yoga and to love in my life. I have all that I need.
