"Many Smaller Cities Dodge Crunch in Consumer Lending" -Mobile is riding out the recession better than large cities
According to Dan Fitzpatrick of the Wall Street Journal's research, many smaller communities such as Huntsville and Mobile have larger than average consumer loan balances.  This means that regional banks are lending to consumers in these areas.  One reason, is that the large metropolitan regions are being hit harder with housing and finance problems.  The data shows that banks feel more comfortable about our local economy and are willing to lend.  In places like Florida, California, and Michigan the consumer-credit balances are falling.  Fitzpatrick has found that the better-performing cities in terms of consumer lending, such as Mobile, were not a part of the run up in real estate values from speculative housing.  This left banks and communities with solid lending conditions.  Many of the smaller cities also have lower unemployment rates.  All of this means that Mobile, AL is better positioned to experience a quicker and less painful rebound.

Business for Sale:  The Pint
The Pint store front

Offered for sale is "The Pint", a wine, liquor, beer and tobacco store in the heart of Downtown.  Located across the street from Bienville Square, "The Pint" has the largest selection of organic wines found in the Mobile market.  Included in the sale is the point-of-sale software, security, and a brand new refrigerator.  The stock is not included but can be negotiated.  This would make an excellent market, gourmet food gallery or food service establishment.  The building is a lease.  This opportunity won't last long.
