UNIVERSITY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERT TONIGHT
OrchestraUniversity Symphony Orchestra Concert - A European Tour! - is sure to please. 
 
Join the CSU Symphony and former principal oboist of the New York Philharmonic, Joe Robinson, on a tour (de force) of European music. A French bonbon opens the program with Saint-Saens seductive Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah. Written at the end of the great German composer's life, Stauss' Oboe Concerto is considered the Mt. Everest of oboe concertos. British composer Benjamin Britten's masterful orchestra demonstration work, The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra concludes your European excursion! A special reprise of Rocky Mountain Contemporary Music Festival guest composer Michael Daugherty's Ghost Ranch brings the orchestra to American soil, depicting artist Georgia O'Keefe and her home in the desert. TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Wes Kenney
The Colorado State University Department of Music is proud to announce that Wes Kenney, full professor of music and director of orchestras at CSU, received the 2009 Outstanding Teacher Award from the Colorado American String Teachers Association, Inc. The award was presented during the 26th Annual Western States Honor Orchestra Festival held at Monfort Concert Hall in Greeley, Colorado on Saturday, November 7th.

"I am deeply honored to be recognized by educators across the state of Colorado," said Wes Kenney.

"This is a high honor for Maestro Kenney, and speaks to the amazing job that both he and the entire string faculty have done in building a quality program, recognized amongst our peers throughout the state," said Todd Queen, Chair of Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance. Read more.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN TRUMPET FESTIVAL CONCERTS THIS WEEKEND
Trumpet Festival
The CSU Department of Music hosts the annual Rocky Mountain Trumpet Festival this weekend with two concerts.

Classical Music Concert: CSU Chamber Orchestra with special guests David Hickman and Daniel Kuehn, Trumpet. Mr. Hickman is considered one of the world's pre-eminent trumpet virtuosos and has performed over 2,000 solo appearances. Each piece features one to three trumpeters, plus a piano or String Ensemble.

Big Band Jazz Concert: CSU Big Band with special guests Al Hood, Brad Goode, Chase Sanborn and Trent Austin, Trumpet.

Faculty Chamber MusicCSU Faculty Chamber Music - The popular faculty concert this fall includes Benjamin Britten's String Quartet #2, Claude Debussy's Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp, and Henry Purcell's Sonata of Three Parts. The players are: Ron Francois, violin; Leslie Stewart, violin; Margaret Miller, viola; Barbara Thiem, cello; Michelle Stanley, flute; and Rachel Starr Ellins, harp.
