If you're in the mood for some classy fun, come on out for tonight's Big Band Jazz Ensembles Concert with a special guest from Chicago, Art Davis on trumpet. A second special guest is Zildjian Educational Endorser and marimba player Kevin Bobo, playing on Thursday night.
 
Please don't miss our theatre special guest Beth Osnes, who brings her powerful, one-of-a-kind (M)other Tour to the UCA for a FREE, one-night presentation on Friday night.
 
Also on Friday night is a Choir Concert and Choir Reunion, in conjunction with CSU Homecoming weekend. 
 
Marching BandThe award-winning CSU Marching Band continues to receive special recognition this year, including an invitation to perform the halftime show at the Denver Broncos vs. New England Patriots game this Sunday. Read the full story. You can also see the band in the CSU Homecoming Parade this Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

ENSEMBLE CONCERTS THIS WEEK
Art DavisSwingin' Big Band Jazz Ensembles Concert Tonight, Tuesday, October 6th. 
 
Enjoy a wonderful evening of swinging big band music as Art Davis and the CSU Jazz Ensemble, directed by Peter Sommer, perform a variety of jazz that is sure to touch the heart and soothe the soul. Art Davis is one of Chicago's leading jazz artists and professor of jazz from the University of Northern Illinois. Directed by Wil Swindler, the CSU Jazz Ensemble II will also be featured. Mr. Swindler joined the CSU jazz faculty this fall, made possible through a generous donation by Jim and Wendy Franzen of www.ART342.org. Read more.

Women's ChorusUniversity Chorus & Women's Chorus Concert: A Choral Tapestry. Special Guests Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, and former CSU Choir Directors
 
The University Chorus and the Women's Chorus perform a variety of selections from across the world including South America, Canada, Europe, India, and the United States composed during several historical eras.

(M)other TourBeth Osnes, writer and performer of (M)other brings her one woman show to CSU.
 
(M)other: A Performance Creating a Global Community of Mothers explores what it might take for the mothers of one country to authentically care about the mothers and children of another country. The show's opening describes a fictional program, called "Baby Swapping," created by the United Nations to generate concern for the world's children. In this small, limited pilot program, seven mothers from seven nations from around the world are required by their governments to swap their six-month-old babies with another mother from another nation for one month. What follows is an intimate look at one of these mother's experiences and her eventual realization of her interconnectedness with these other mothers, their children, and their nations. Read more.

(M)other Tour(M)other Workshop
The workshop, Empowering Mother Voices, asks mothers to identify their most passionate concern for children and helps them gain skills, confidence and practice declaring this concern. The workshop leads each mother to her own brand of leadership in creating a world in which children's needs are prioritized and their rights protected. Read more.

The Department of Music welcomes nationally and internationally acclaimed soloist, recitalist, clinician, and orchestral percussionist, Kevin Bobo, for a unique concert featuring marimba. Bobo often performs at percussion festivals as well as being an active composer and recording artist. He is a Malletech clinician/recitalist and a Zildjian Educational Endorser.

Margaret MillerMargaret Miller, Viola with Sara McDaniel, Piano - Viola professor Margaret Miller and pianist Sara McDaniel have programmed the youthful Sonata for Viola and Piano by Felix Mendelssohn, the evocative Lachrymae of Benjamin Britten, and the romantic Sonata for Viola and Piano by the American composer, Arthur Foote. 16th INTERNATIONAL INVITATIONAL POSTER EXHIBITION NOW OPEN
16TH CIIPE16th Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition (CIIPE) highlights excellence in poster design from leading and emerging graphic designers from around the globe. Now in its 30th year the exhibition will be featured, for the first time, in one venue at the University Art Museum.
 
Featuring works of 82 artists from 28 countries, the 16th CIIPE exhibits and interprets poster design, showcases examples of visual communication to an American audience, and promotes international understanding and dialogue through the graphic arts. A full color catalogue of the exhibition is available and some works in the exhibition are still for sale on a first come first serve basis. Read more.

THE MAGIC FLUTE OPENS SOON
Magic FluteCSU Opera Theatre presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's final operatic masterpiece, Die Zauberflote (The Magic Flute).
 
The production is the CSU Opera Theatre directorial debut of CSU Opera Director and former Metropolitan Opera baritone, David Malis, and is conducted by CSU maestro, Wes Kenney.
 
The beautiful, magical, and often nonsensical fairy tale The Magic Flute premiered in Vienna to a sold-out house on September 30, 1791, just two months before Mozart's death. The opera enjoyed immediate success and lifted the spirits of the ill composer. It is written in the popular German Singspiel format and the CSU Opera Theatre production features songs in German with English dialogue.

Theatre SeatAs the number of Music, Theatre and Dance events has significantly increased since the School of the Arts fully moved into the UCA, and attendance to these events has grown every semester, we are helping patrons avoid lines at the box office the night of the show.
