This week, the large music ensembles come out to play! The top CSU Choirs take the stage on Tuesday night, while the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band perform on Thursday.
The 16th Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition gets underway on Wednesday, September 30th with the Honor Laureate Lecture given by Iranian graphic designer, Majid Abbasi. The highly anticipated opening reception and poster sale is on Friday, October 2nd.

Top Choirs Perform Tuesday night.
The Concert Choir welcomes Dr. Leila Heil to the Department of Music as she makes her debut with the ensemble. The Chamber Choir presents madrigals by Monteverdi, Dallapiccola, and Werle as they preview their program for their second appearance at the National Collegiate Choral Organization Conference in November at Yale University.

CSU Bands Concert on Thursday
The Wind Ensemble performs the acclaimed Asphalt Cocktail, by John Mackey, who begged a friend to give him the title idea saying, "I'm dying to write Asphalt Cocktail. I've wanted to for years...since you first thought of it! Now it's making me crazy." Come hear what the ruckus is all about! The large Symphonic Band performs Bela Bartok's Roumanian Folk Dances, Ronald Lo Presti's Elegy For a Young American, dedicated to the memory of President John F. Kennedy, and Edward Elgar's well-known Enigma Variations. Read more.

| 16th INTERNATIONAL INVITATIONAL POSTER EXHIBITION OPENS FRIDAY |
16th Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition (CIIPE) highlights excellence in poster design from leading and emerging graphic designers from around the globe. Now in its 30th year the exhibition will be featured, for the first time, in one venue at the University Art Museum.
Featuring works of 82 artists from 28 countries, the 16th Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition - or CIIPE - exhibits and interprets poster design, showcases examples of visual communication to an American audience, and promotes international understanding and dialogue through the graphic arts. A full color catalogue of the exhibition will be available and works in the exhibition will be for sale on a first come first serve basis.

16th International Invitational Poster Exhibition Honor Laureate Lecture:
Each biennial year the exhibition features an artist whose lifework is marked by excellence in poster design with a solo exhibition and public lecture. Majid Abbasi's work will be highlighted at the Curfman Gallery in the Lory Student Center. Abbasi is the CIIPE's first laureate from Iran, a country that is experiencing a blossoming of contemporary graphic design. In this visiting artist lecture the artist will introduce his own work and the work of other contemporary Iranian designers. Read more.

Beth Osnes, writer and performer of (M)other brings her one woman show to CSU.
(M)other: A Performance Creating a Global Community of Mothers explores what it might take for the mothers of one country to authentically care about the mothers and children of another country. The show's opening describes a fictional program, called "Baby Swapping," created by the United Nations to generate concern for the world's children. In this small, limited pilot program, seven mothers from seven nations from around the world are required by their governments to swap their six-month-old babies with another mother from another nation for one month. What follows is an intimate look at one of these mother's experiences and her eventual realization of her interconnectedness with these other mothers, their children, and their nations. Read more.

(M)other Workshop
The workshop, Empowering Mother Voices, asks mothers to identify their most passionate concern for children and helps them gain skills, confidence and practice declaring this concern. The workshop leads each mother to her own brand of leadership in creating a world in which children's needs are prioritized and their rights protected. Read more.

Adventures in Chamber Music. Two world premiere performances are part of this chamber music recital featuring Michelle Stanley, flute. "To be able to commission works from living composers is always exciting, and the chance to perform this new music for an audience is even more special. Many of the works have been waiting to be performed for years; we hope you join us for a unique night of contemporary chamber music for flute!" Read more.

Special Guest Kevin Bobo, Percussion
The Department of Music welcomes nationally and internationally acclaimed soloist, recitalist, clinician, and orchestral percussionist, Kevin Bobo, for a unique concert featuring marimba. Bobo often performs at percussion festivals as well as being an active composer and recording artist. He is a Malletech clinician/recitalist and a Zildjian Educational Endorser.
