| THEATRE PRODUCTION OF "EURYDICE" THIS WEEKEND |
Eurydice, by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Kaily Anderson. In the original Greek myth, while mourning the death of his wife Eurydice, Orpheus plays such beautiful music that he receives permission from the Gods to go to the underworld and bring her back.
Eurydice is a play about what it is to love, to lose, and to find oneself along the way. Hardly new themes, Ruhl's open and honest approach to the work enlivens the tale, bringing truth and evoking pathos for the story's characters. "The first time I read the play, I was moved in an inexplicable way," remarks Anderson. "Ruhl has taken the original myth from Ovid's Metamorphosis and used it as a base point for her own quirky and wonderful story - I was quite taken with it." READ MORE

Two CSU senior dance majors, Chantel Doyon and Grady Soapes did a lovely job performing the piece, commissioned by Solar Site Dance Company in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in July 2008. Distance describes the myth of a relationship on two different continents; how they merge and depart. The dancers use 25 yards of fabric which is used as a metaphor for emotional thread that connects the two dancers. Distance will be performed tonight, March 27 at the Tour Dance Company Showcase. | |

| UPCOMING THEATRE PRODUCTION: REALITY OR ILLUSION - YOU DECIDE! |
Six Characters in Search of an Author, by Luigi Pirandello and directed by Laura Jones.
In its millennium retrospective of the major literary influences contributing to our modern sensibilities, TIME Magazine named Luigi Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author the most significant play of the 20th Century! As a stage director tries to conduct a routine rehearsal with a company of actors and technicians, they are interrupted by the arrival of six characters insisting that their story - not the one on the boards - be shown and told to the audience. Not only was Pirandello one of the first writers to exaggerate the stereotypes of domestic drama by burdening them with such self-awareness, his seminal work explores the gaps between appearance and reality as well as form and content in an existential world where the tragic and comic coexist as points of view.
