THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE
Caucasian Chalk CircleOPENING THIS THURSDAY!
The Caucasian Chalk Circle, one of Bertolt Brecht's best loved plays, is an epic fairytale, told with original music, songs, and theatrical magic...

"As a director, I'm truly excited to be staging Colorado State University's first production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle, a popular masterpiece by Bertolt Brecht, the pioneering German playwright and great theatrical innovator," says Artistic Director Eric Prince.

With a cast of 30 students performing more than 70 roles, plus musicians, singers, and Asian Shadow Puppet Theater, it promises to be an epic play and a thoroughly entertaining evening. Brecht's plays contain a rare poetic vision, a voice that has rarely been paralleled in the 20th century," said Prince.

Grusha, a young peasant woman sacrifices everything to protect an abandoned child, is made to confront the biological mother in a legal contest over who deserves to keep him. The judge calls on an ancient tradition - the chalk circle - to resolve the dispute, and determines the child's true mother.
