Words can not express our joy and appreciation over last week's Grand Opening of the University Center for the Arts. A truly heart-felt thank you to each of you who attended the special opening ceremony on such a beautiful fall day! As the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Ann Gill expressed, "it is a dream come true."
The School of the Arts continues to bring world-class events to the campus and Fort Collins community, and this week is no exception. Please join us for multiple concerts featuring Guest Artists, and the theatrical opening of The Beckett Project featuring an internationally-acclaimed performance by Wendy Ishii, and lectures given by Samuel Beckett's hand-selected biographer, James Knowlson. Read further for all the details.
Many continued thanks,
Marketing and Publicity Director, School of the Arts |
| THE BECKETT PROJECT |
With The Beckett Project, Dr. Laura Jones and her theatre colleagues at CSU and Bas Bleu Theatre Company use selected works by Nobel Prize-winning author Samuel Beckett to conduct creative research trials on the emotive affect of the juxtaposition of light and dark onstage. Dr. Jones pairs Rough for Theatre II with Play and A Piece of Monologue with her own adaptation of Ill Seen Ill Said. Plus, Wendy Ishii, Bas Bleu's artistic director, will be reprising her signature role as Winnie in the internationally critically-acclaimed CSU/Bas Bleu collaboration Happy Days - quintessentially Beckett - frightening yet absurdly funny. To complete the project, audiences share their own reactions and reflections through blogs, post-show talk-backs, and panel discussions. See lecture schedule below.

| BECKETT PROJECT LECTURE SERIES |
To see for himself what all the fuss is about, Beckett's biographer James Knowlson plans a special trip across the Atlantic to participate in Bas Bleu's Speaker Series, at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 26. Knowlson was Beckett's choice to pen the critically-acclaimed profile Damned to Fame because "Jim knows me best."
Professor Knowlson also presents a special lecture on Happy Days, Monday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the UCA Organ Recital Hall. FREE and open to the public, Knowlson will expand on the resonances of Ishii's and other international performers with sound and pictures.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTARY - Following the performance of Happy Days at Bas Bleu on Thursday, October 23, the audience is invited to participate in an open discussion with Dr. Linda Ben-Zvi, CSU professor emerita in English and Theatre and President of the International Beckett Society, joined by CSU Professor, Dr. Eric Prince, Director of the Center for Studies in Beckett and Philip Sneed.
