HEAR THE LIGHT!
The Colorado State University Wind Ensemble, directed by J Steven Moore, and the Symphonic Band, directed by Miller Asbill, perform their first concert of the academic year.
The Wind Ensemble, CSU's top select band, performs Hear The Light!, a program exploring light and dark themes. The band welcomes new CSU Theory and Composition Faculty, James David by opening their season with his original composition Straylight, a piece for large brass and percussion ensemble. The piece, with a title derived from William Gibson's seminal cyberpunk novel Neuromancer and referring to a labyrinthine villa/space station floating in Earth's orbit, is a postmodern composition in the literal sense of drawing upon both ancient and contemporary sources. | SOUP CAN COMES HOME |
Campbell's Tomato Soup Can signed by Andy Warhol
Coinciding with the University Center for the Arts grand opening celebration is the return to campus of one of the three beloved Campbell's Tomato Soup Cans signed by Andy Warhol. The soup cans were created in collaboration with Warhol for the opening of the Warhol at Colorado State University exhibit, and were signed by Warhol upon his arrival at the art building on September 1, 1981. The massive can resided on the Department of Art front lawn until 1986, and was installed at the UCA on September 29, 2008 as the third piece in the developing UCA Sculpture Garden.
