This week, we're pleased to introduce you to Gary Voss who is the new Chair of the Department of Art and the new Co-Executive Director of the School of the Arts, as well as share exciting news about faculty and student accomplishments. Plus, learn about how the building of the University Center for the Arts fits with CSU's commitment to being a green university.

ART DEPT. WELCOMES NEW CHAIR
Gary Voss, Chair, Department of ArtThe Department of Art is pleased to annouce that Associate Professor of Sculpture Gary Voss is the new Chair of the department and Co-Executive Director of the School of the Arts, succeeding Dr. Patrick Fahey who plans to visit groups around the country that use art in their work with marginalized groups and work with Loveland's Garfield Elemntary on an arts integration project during his sabbatical in the fall. In addition, four long-time Art faculty members - David Ellerby, Kenneth Hendry, Peter Jacobs, Harold (Randy) Wassell - retired in 2008. Read more (PDF)
PIANO STUDENT SUCCESSES
Elvin Holderfield, CSU Piano StudentCSU Keyboard students have had many wonderful accomplishments in the last several months. Dawn Dalangin (Senior, Piano Performance) was selected as a finalist in both the Ocala, Florida Symphony National Young Artist Competition and the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Symphony National Young Artist Competition.  
 
CSU Music alums Miroslava (Mira) Mintcheva and David McArthur took First and Second Place Prizes in the Kawai Piano Competition held in Denver in May. Mira was also one of only 24 entrants, including several finalists from the last Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, who were accepted into the International Jose Iturbi Piano Competition.
 
Elvin Holderfield (Sophomore, Piano Performance, pictured), was one of three students featured in a Masterclass given by international pianist and superstar Lang Lang at the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) 2008 National Convention held in Denver in April. Read more (PDF)

MARKETING OFFICE TRANSITIONS
Jeanna NixonJeanna Nixon will leave to the School of the Arts Marketing Office in July to work as Manager of Marketing and Student Engagement for the CSU Division of Continuing Education. She enjoyed promoting the incredible work being done by our students and faculty, and is proud to continue to contribute to CSU in her new position. We are pleased that Jennifer Clary, who has been working part-time as Marketing Coordinator for the Department of Music, will take over the School of the Arts Marketing Office. 
DR. JAMES KIM & CHORAL PROGRAMS
Dr. James Kim, Director of Choral StudiesDr. James Kim, Director of Choral Studies in the School of the Arts, has built and shaped a highly successful program that involves both music majors and students from other areas in the University. "We've created places and opportunities for anyone who wants to sing. Students across campus with different backgrounds are brought together by a common interest and joy in singing," Kim says. UCA PART OF A GREEN CSU
Re-use at the UCACSU prides itself on its work as a "green university" and the renovation of the Old Fort Collins High School to create the University Center for the Arts has involved a commitment to re-using building features, materials, and structures. Read more (PDF)    
 
Mark you calendar to celebrate the completion of the University Center for the Arts on Thursday, October 16, 2008. The event begins with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1:00 p.m. followed by a community open house where you'll get a chance to see the new areas of the building including the Casavant Organ Recital Hall, University Dance Theatre, and University Art Museum.
