| Hang Your Clothing Backwards!
You've heard of the Pareto Principle - otherwise known as the 80/20 Rule - right? Applying this rule to clothing would mean that we wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. Call your local donation pick-up service, because in the organizing world this means that 80% of our wardrobe (the portion we rarely wear) is prime material for purging.
Here's a quick, fun tip on how to easily identify the portion of your wardrobe rarely worn:
- Hang all of the clothing in your closet with the clothes hanger facing backwards
- Each time you wear an item, return it to your closet with the hanger facing forward
- Check back in a month (or even at the end of an entire season) and notice ALL those items you have never worn (hint: they will be on the hangers still facing backwards)
So go ahead, hang your clothing backwards and check back in a month (or at the end of the season). You may be surprised what you discover!
