Greetings!
A big pile of dirt! Why did we feature dirt from Holliston's Cutler Heights housing development on our masthead this month? Because when you see similar piles all over Massachusetts, you know that CPA is at work - building affordable housing, rehabilitating historic buildings, creating parks and playground, and putting the citizens of the Commonwealth back to work. HAVE YOU SUBMITTED YOUR NOMINATION?
Nominate Your Community Preservation Hero Today
| |
August 1st is the deadline to submit nominations for The Robert Kuehn Community Preservation Awards. If there is someone in your community who has given tirelessly to your CPA program, nominate them today!
And save the date for our celebration of CPA's 10th anniversary, where we will honor the ten award winners - individuals who have been significant contributors to the success of CPA during its first decade. The awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled for September 27 at the State House.
The Robert Kuehn Community Preservation Awards were developed to honor the memory and work of former Coalition Steering Committee member Bob Kuehn. Bob was actively involved in the process of drafting and passing CPA, and served as Vice Chair of the Steering Committee until his death in 2006.
We have received several nominations already -- but we know there are more CPA heroes out there! Submitting your nomination couldn't be simpler: To nominate your Community Preservation Hero, click here.

AN INNOVATIVE MODEL FOR CPA HISTORIC PROJECTS
Learn about Cambridge's Preservation Grants Program
| |
CPA communities often ask the Coalition for advice on providing CPA grants to private owners of significant historic buildings. The City of Cambridge has an excellent model, providing CPA funds to the Cambridge Historical Commission, for distribution through the Commission's Community Preservation Grant Programs.
The Cambridge Historical Commission runs two separate programs that distribute CPA historic preservation funds in the form of competitive grants. One program provides grants to private homeowners and affordable housing agencies, and the other program supports non-profit organizations.
This innovative model for funding local preservation projects has several benefits. Read on for a discussion of these benefits, as well as more information on the Commission's grant programs. . .

CPA FEATURED PROJECT Cutler Heights, Holliston | |
On June 2, the community of Holliston celebrated the official grand opening of Cutler Heights -- a 3 1/2 story CPA development that provides the community with 30 new units of affordable rental housing.
The image in the newsletter header above was taken during the construction process. But as you can see in the photo at left, the building is now complete, and residents have moved in and are singing the project's praises.
