CPA UpdateFebruary 2011

Greetings!

CPA advocates created quite a buzz on Beacon Hill last month, and the results were impressive!  Read on for the final results of our quest for co-sponsors of the CPA legislation, as well as the story of how open space advocates in one CPA town, against seemingly insurmountable odds, pushed a critical CPA project across the finish line.

A Record Number of Sponsors Sign on to Support CPA

state houseThanks to your hard work, a majority of legislators in both chambers at the State House signed on to support CPA: 25 state senators and 89 state representatives joined lead sponsors Cynthia Stone Creem and Stephen Kulik in supporting "An Act to Sustain Community Preservation." This is a significant increase from last session, and we are grateful to have such a strong show of support for CPA. We are awaiting the assignment of the bill to a legislative committee, which should occur later this month, followed by a hearing at the State House. We will keep you updated as the bill progresses!

THANK YOU to every CPA advocate who took action over these past few weeks -- we couldn't have built such an impressive list of legislator support without your help!

Are your legislators on the list of co-sponsors? If so, we encourage you to send a note of thanks, or write a 'Letter to the Editor' to your local newspaper.  Click here for a sample letter that you can use.
