New Year.  New You.
January 2010 Newsletter

Greetings!

And Happy New Year! As I write this from the Kauai, the garden island it is easy to be optimistic about the year ahead of us. I have already had many "firsts" this year including my son Pace's first time in an ocean and on a surf board, my first time on a stand up board, our first hike/kayak trip to our first secret waterfall.  Watching his excitement and feeling my own I have been reminded once again that life, all of life is made up of experiences and that we often get to choose the experiences we have. From the places we travel to the way we feel and look everyday all we have to do is grab the reigns of our lives and point the direction we want to head. Some journeys take a few days and some a lifetime however the journey is ours to take and to shape. So take a moment right now if you can and jot down a few journeys you want to take in your life. You might start if some places you want to travel to however most of the journeys in life have little to do with geography and has more to do with journeys of understanding our body and minds. Here is a list that might help you start.
  1. Places you would like to visit this year
  2. Things you would like to learn this year (an instrument, painting, etc)
  3. How you would like to eat this year ( healthy, vegetarian, healthier)
  4. How fit would you like to be this year (activities, diet, mediation)
  5. How helpful would you like to be (mentoring, charity, etc)
  6. What kind of people do you want to be around
  7. What do you not want to bring with you from last year (harmful habits)
Now the rest is up to you, take the list and write down one thing you can do today to point you in the direction you want to go and then the most important part...do it!

We all know it is easy to get distracted so place your daily action list and put it in places that will help remind you of where you want to go with your life and once a week or month revisit the list and analyze your progress. Remember change is constant just point the way everyday!

Much love ~

Yoga 101-The Basics with Jayme
Saturday January 23rd from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m.
In Yoga 101 we will cover all the basics you need to get your yoga practive off to a great start!  We'll cover how to modify and customize the most commonly used poses like plank, down dog, up dog, lunges, and twists as well as give you detailed instruction on how to engage the hands and core that will greatly decrease your chances for injury in class.  We'll talk about breathing and whats the point of yoga in the first place!  Why a beginner's workshop is so important?  Well, in a regular class scenerio it's difficult to fully explain all of the details.  Open level classes wil be much easier and you'll build strength and flexibility quickly and more efficiently.  Knowing how to breath, customize, and engage certain muscles will have you feeling much better physically which will keep you coming back.

Yoga 102-The Flow with Kurt
Saturday January 30th from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m.
Price is $15-reserve spot!
In Yoga 102 we'll take up a notch.  This workshop is for you if are comfortable with the basics and might be feeling less of a challenge in your yoga practice both physically and mentally.  We will talk in more detail how to use your core, hands and feet to engage the body, which will develop the strength to practice arm balances and the famous "float back", and the mind which will create the focus, peace, and vitality needed to get through life!

Lifestyle101-Detox Workshop Detox Workshop

Follow up meeting Feb. 7th, 2:00-3:30 p.m.
Our bodies detoxify everyday but an annual, or better yet, a bi-annual detox is a great way to assist the bodies natural ability to rid itself of the toxins that surround us all day, every day (fumes, pesticides, junk food, smog, artificial sweeteners, preservatives.)  A detox is not necessarily a weight loss program, however it can be a side affect.  We do it for our long term health.  We are calling this program Lifestye 101 because of the basic nutritional information that all individuals striving for a healthy lifestyle need.
The program includes:  high quality supplements, eliminating certain foods and daily toxic products, 2 group meetings with TANITA testing (measures your fat to muscle ratio), and weekly coaching.
You can expect: an increase in over all energy and focus through out the day, skin health improvement, and a decrease in allergy symptoms and weight.
The value of this workshop is over $400.

Classroom Etiquette
At APY we try to keep things as laid back and fun as possible. But please keep the following in mind this year.
~Save the studio phone number in your contacts (469-232-9642) and call ahead if you're going to be late for class.  We can put a mat down for you so it won't disturb the other practitioners.
~please use the dressing rooms to change in instead of the bathroom during the busy evening hours. (we are adding lights and mirrors!!)
~If you are going to be more than 5 minutes late please do not try to attend class.
~Turn off your cell phone and keep phone conversations in the lobby.
~If you need to leave class early, inform the instructors before hand, choose a spot that is closer to the door, and exit quietly before the lights are dimmed for meditation.
~Please gather all of your belongings.
~If you are pregnant please inform your instructor.
