Habitat's Community Day
As fall approaches, many schools, churches and townships
host community days, events, or fairs to bring people together. We invite you to join us for Habitat's very
own community day at the Grand Opening of Habitat's ReStore and offices on
Saturday, September 25. Habitat brings
families, volunteers, donors, faith organizations, civic groups, colleges,
corporations, foundations and numerous other groups together to build a better
community for everyone. Celebrating
together and extending the Habitat community is what we are all about. The day will begin with a Bird House build, sponsored by
Home Depot, for kids (ages 5-12). Kids
will learn about playing an active role in the community. We are also holding a college building
competition where students from Villanova
University, Gwynedd
Mercy College,
and Philadelphia University will compete to build the
best dog house. To support their college
community, students, staff, faculty and alum are encouraged to come and cheer
on their school's team! Charm
City Cakes, of the Food
Network's "Ace of Cakes" show, is creating an amazing, one-of-a-kind cake that
will be viewed (and eaten!) at the event, and there will also be a free picnic. Many local companies, restaurants and
businesses have been generous in giving back to the community by sponsoring our
event, or donating food for the picnic, or gift certificates or items for our
silent auction. The ReStore itself serves the Montgomery County community in
three ways: reducing the environmental
impact of our county residents (who, in 2009, disposed of more than 660,000
tons of municipal waste and an additional 85,000 tons of construction waste),
offering high-quality home-improvement items at affordable costs, and allowing
Habitat to build more simple, decent, affordable homes throughout the county
for families in need. Throughout the Grand Opening, Habitat will be giving back to
the community in its own ways - offering DIY clinics, free giveaways, and
special deals on ReStore merchandise all day. As we celebrate our new ReStore, new offices and new home, we welcome
you with open arms and open doors. Sincerely, The Habitat Community PS: For more details
