An Expression of Gratitude Last week was National Volunteer Week and it led me to reflect on the many things that all of us here at Habitat appreciate, including our many volunteers who make our mission such a success year after year. Last year, more than 1,300 individuals shared 18,000 hours of their time and talent with Habitat. Whether that time was spent swinging a hammer on the construction site, staffing or preparing for the ReStore garage sales, or serving on a committee or even the Board of Directors, every hour spent and every volunteer makes a huge difference to us. Each year, we honor our volunteers at our annual volunteer reception. I invite you to attend this year's event - a barbeque at our new building on Foundry Road in West Norriton - on May 16. It is a wonderful opportunity to share a moment with other people who share the same passion for Habitat and celebrate the true volunteer foundation of our organization. However, our committed volunteer group is just one thing among many that we appreciate. This past weekend, we dedicated our 48th home in Montgomery County. This event reaffirmed my appreciation for what Habitat is all about - our families and homeowners. I am grateful for opportunity to work for Habitat and also for the incredible individuals and families who I encounter every day. Since Marianne began her new position with Philabundance a few weeks ago, we have been operating with a smaller staff and are working harder than ever. Amidst this busy time, I am grateful for the dedicated staff we have and look forward to working with them in the future to provide more simple, decent, affordable housing for families in need. As you know, one of our top priorities has been getting our very own ReStore up and running. I would like to take a moment to recognize Montgomeryville Mini Storage and Hunter Douglas of Willow Grove, who both contributed shelving units for our store, and to all of our ReStore supporters who have worked tirelessly to turn our dreams into a reality. Appreciation is defined as gratitude or thankful recognition but as also as the act of estimating the qualities of things and giving them their proper value. In this issue of Habichat, let us realize the proper value of all that has been given to Habitat and give thanks. Sincerely, Brenda Egolf-Fox Executive Director

redesigning the page, it looks great! |
Recent Staff Changes
Marianne Lynch recently accepted a new position at Philabundance as the Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Relations. She has always had a passion for the hunger relief and food banking mission. We are grateful for her many contributions to our organization and truly appreciate all of the time, talent and dedication that she blessed us with for the past three years. We wish Marianne the best of luck and we know that hunger will find a formidable enemy in her!
And...a big welcome to Pat Peddie, our full time volunteer ReStore Manager. Pat is a metallurgical engineer and has an MBA as well as 25 years of experience working in the steel industry. She has played a significant role in our ReStore efforts since the beginning of 2008 and has been working on the project since its conception. Pat has done immeasurable research on ReStore operations, best practices, business plans, and starting a store and has even travelled to visit other ReStores and attend conferences. Her hard work has paid off and she is excited about our new warehouse building and the many possibilities that the ReStore holds for Habitat. Pat can be reached at pat@habitatmontco.org. Drop her a line and say hello! |
Board Member Spotlight
This month, we would like to spotlight the last of our new board members that joined our organization in January.
Ben Hyde, a long time Habitat volunteer and supporter, is a familiar face around our office, on the construction site, on our committees, and now on the Board of Directors.
Ben comes to us with more than 30 years of experience in the corporate world, with expertise in troubleshooting finance operations, operations management, department reorganization, acquisition and systems design. After leaving the high-stress, high-pressure corporate environment, Ben got a chance to pursue a life's purpose that spoke to his heart and spirit. He had always been interested in Habitat for Humanity and he knew that he wanted to be in the field, contributing in a hands-on way. Ben has been a full time volunteer with Habitat on our construction sites and as a site supervisor for more than four years and has also served on our finance and building committees for the last two years. Ben's business background combined with his expansive construction knowledge and passion for Habitat will help Habitat transition to a new level. We are very excited to have him on board. Welcome Ben! |
