Brenda Egolf-FoxThe Richness of Habitat

Last week, our staff had the opportunity to take the Myers-Briggs survey during a weekly planning session.  Most of us had taken it at some time or another in our various careers, so it came as no surprise that we were an introvert or an extrovert, thinking or feeling, etc, but what was surprising about it was the diversity of strengths within our small team.  Out of the nine members of our staff that took the test, only two had identical characteristics.  As our instructor pointed out, we had a wonderful mix people who could lead and follow, those who saw the big picture and those who paid more attention to the details and those who liked to talk as well as those who are good listeners.

Coming out of this session, I saw the great value in evaluating our differences in order to strengthen our team and help our organization grow.  We truly have a richness of experience and perspective moving into the future.

This is true of our staff, but it is also true of the volunteers, families and supporters involved with Habitat. If we were able to give each one the Myers-Briggs survey, I think we would find very few overlapping qualities, but rather an interwoven richness of experience, passion, faith and talent.  Part of what makes Habitat special is that broad appeal to very different people.

This Sunday, we will celebrate the "richness" of Habitat with a "Homecoming Picnic" for volunteers, supporters, past and present board members, families and staff.  I invite you to join us at Lower Perkiomen Valley Park off 422 from 1:00PM until dusk  celebrating our success, diversity and the many wonderful people that make Habitat so special.

Thank You!

We would like to thank those of you who supported our fundraiser with the Lowe's Grand Opening Gift Card match in April.  Thanks to your generosity and with help from Lowe's, we received a Gift Card for $5000 to purchase materials to help in construction.  By turning out en mass, we received the maximum gift card amount!  This funding will help with all sorts of purchases for construction such as tools, fixtures, lumber and so much more.

Thanks for making the trip to Hatfield!

Villanova logo

Congratulations Villanova University!

Last week, our affiliate received notification that the Habitat Chapter at Villanova University had been awarded an honorable mention as "Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Chapter of the Year."

Villanova competed against hundreds of collegiate chapters around the country to vy for this very prestigeous honor.  According to Habitat International, what set Villanova apart was their ability to sponsor two homes with our affiliate within a twenty-four month period by engaging the entire campus, alumni and faculty.  This is no small task considering sponsorship is currently $90,000!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Villanova for their tremendous commitment to our affiliate and for their tireless support on our behalf.  We are very honored and truly grateful to partner with them. In our eyes, they are number one!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Linden with RoofsThe recent bout of cloudy, rainy weather has affected some of our construction plans - instead of a new foundation at 3104 Summit Avenue in North Hills, we have a big muddy hole in the ground!  With some elements of construction out of our control, we are relying on the flexibility and understanding of our wonderful volunteers.  While there is limited availability for volunteering on the construction site, our ReStore may be moving to a new location in West Norriton this summer, where there will be many opportunities to volunteer!  In particular, we are looking for volunteers to cashier and to drive the ReStore truck.  If you are interested in helping with either of these, please email Linley@habitatmontco.org

Want to help, but can't swing a hammer?
