| President's Message

The joys of July and August! It can be a time to rest, get away, and relax. The slower schedule of the summer months offers us an opportunity for reflection and renewal. As coaches, we are often hired to partner with clients in their renewal and change initiatives. We can notice what's there, probe deeper, and challenge our clients to grow, to take risks to do and be more (or less), and to be more fully present.
But what about us? As coaches, it's only natural to wonder, are we called upon to step away from, to renew, or to change? Is it the context, the "what" we do, or is life asking us to change the process, the "way" we do what we do? One way to get perspective and renew ourselves, is to deepen our connections with family and friends. Summer is a great time for that, often bringing reunions, vacations and other events to enjoy. I invite you to connect with your ICF-P "family" by joining us for our annual summer gathering on August 16th at Bahama Breeze. It will be a great time to renew and enjoy!
We take the month off in July and August from our regular monthly dinner meetings. Your Board will be connecting with ICF's Global Board when they hold their meeting here in Philadelphia. We'll be sharing what's new at ICF-P and will get an inside peek into Global ICF's plans and activities.
As for change, please help us welcome and celebrate our new VP of Marketing, Laurie Gripshover, who recently joined our Board. Welcome, Laurie! Meanwhile, Roy Millsap recently resigned as Treasurer. We thank him for his service on the 2011 Conference Committee and the 2012 Board. We hope to announce a new Treasurer soon.
I hope you have a wonderful summer - with time to enjoy renewal and relaxation as well as time to reflect on change. And I look forward to seeing you at Bahama Breeze on August 16th!
Warm regards,
Marjorie

Announcing:The NEW Community Coach Connection
| |
Under the leadership of Ginger Jarrett, ICFP's Vice President for Corporate Affairs, we are launching a new community outreach effort called "Community Coach Connection". Community groups such as associations and non-profit organizations will have the opportunity to benefit from 1-on-1 probono coaching. Interested groups are invited to apply. They will be matched with qualified coaches who are members of ICF-P. Pro bono coaching will be conducted monthly for a minimum of six months.
We need coaches to work with the organizations that apply. Coaches need to meet the following requirements:
- Completion of an ICF Certified Coaching School, or,
- Completion of 60 hours of coach training [in alignment with the Minimum Eligibility Requirements (MER)].
Applications for community groups and for coaches can be found on our website, www.philadelphiacoaches.org.
Please submit your completed application by July 15, 2012 to Ginger Jarrett, at corporateaffairs@philadelphiacoaches.org
All applications will be reviewed and assignments made based upon best match for each organization's needs.
Thank you, in advance, for supporting this worthwhile effort!

Dean Becker to Present at the ICF Global Conference
| |
We are very pleased to announce that ICF-Philly member Dean Becker has been selected to present a session at the ICF Global Conference in London this Fall. Dean Becker is Managing Director, Adaptiv Learning Systems, and his session for the London conference is entitled "Guiding Yourself - And Your Clients - To Greater Resilience and Connection."
In this session you will first learn a practical skill to boost your own resilience - the ability to stay focused, connected, energized and optimistic in the midst of change, uncertainty or any other challenges. You will then learn how to both assess and guide your clients to greater resilience using the Hay Group/Adaptiv Resilience Workbook. (Participants will receive a complimentary copy of the workbook, which provides access to the Adaptiv Resilience Factor Inventory (RFI), a web-based assessment that measures the 7 abilities that comprise resilience, as well as an introduction to skills that boost each of these 7 resilience factors.)
Finally, Dean will share Adaptiv's latest research findings on the power of higher level connections to our jobs - and to our lives at large - to create greater resilience, and greater job and life satisfaction for our clients, our families and ourselves.
This 90 minute workshop is excerpted from the Adaptiv Resilience Coaching Certification program, an ICF CCE-approved 2 day session. As a result of attending this workshop you will be well-equipped to
introduce the concept of resilience to a coaching client, administer the RFI, provide feedback to the client, and guide your client through the completion of the Resilience Workbook.
Since 1997, Adaptiv Learning Systems has been developing and delivering state-of-the-art programs that help people become more successful at work and in the rest of their lives. For more information on Adaptiv Learning go to www.adaptivlearning.com.

- 58% of our members provide personal/ life coaching; 44% provide executive and organizational coaching; 36% provide career coaching; and 26% provide coaching for small businesses.
- 71% of our members are also members of ICF Global
- 49% of our members plan to obtain an ICF credential within next 3 years!
- 67% are somewhat or not at all clear on the ICF's new Minimum Eligibility Requirements
(Here's a link if you'd like to become clearer right now: http://www.coachfederation.org/mer)
- Respondents voted yes to a "Rate Your Coach Training School" website section (83%)
- A large majority of respondents want a 2013 conference (68%)
This is just a brief sampling -- there's lots more great data in the survey results. The board is mining the data for guidance on future initiatives. If you would like to review a full report, you can find it posted in the Member's area of our website: www.philadelphiacoaches.org.
Many thanks again to all those who responded to the survey. We want you to know that we hear you and will be making good use of your input.

New Coach Member Buddy Program (NCMBP)
|
Are you a seasoned coach who would enjoy taking a fellow coach 'under your wing' teaching them the ropes and sharing from your own experiences?
Or, are you a new coach needing some guidance/support/tools to get started?
ICF Philadelphia is looking to provide a mutual opportunity for both experienced coaches as well as those who are just starting out by pairing the two together! Many new coaches are overwhelmed by all that it takes to become successful and having a seasoned mentor coach to 'lean on', ask questions of and learn from may be invaluable in reaching their full potential as a coach/business owner.
We are asking both the mentor and mentee to be willing to make a voluntary 6-month commitment to the relationship. The only requirement is that you agree to have six contacts over the six months (one per month). The contact can be on the phone, in person over lunch, before an ICF monthly dinner meeting, or whenever and however you want it to be.
The Official Launch Date for the New Coach Member Buddy Program (NCMBP) program will be August 1st! Please email Lisa Waldman at elisawaldman@comcast.net, as soon as possible for more information or to request an application.
There will be an Informational Q & A Call on Monday, July 9th 7-8 pm for anyone already involved in the pilot program as well as anyone who is interested in being a part of the program. We will be using the ICF Phila Bridgeline number: (712) 429-0700, pin 343865. The alternate number is (712) 429-0690, pin 686526.

Looking for a New Opportunity?
| |
Are you looking for ways to cultivate new relationships, strategic alliances, and/or make new friends? Have you considered getting more involved in ICF Philadelphia?
Volunteering with ICF-P is a great way to broaden your horizons! I am currently serving as Engagement Coordinator for ICF-P and would love to help you get more engaged!
We are currently in need of people to step into these positions:
Librarian - to catalog and share all the Coaching materials currently owned by ICF-P. This would be an opportunity to network with many members and make a positive impact and contribution to the organization.
For the November, 2013 Coaching Conference, Chairs and Co-Chairs are needed for Finance, Marketing and Communications, Programming, and Conference Evaluation.
Also there are upcoming open Board positions if that interests you?
If you would like to just get involved and sure how just yet, let me know and we can find a spot for you, I'm sure.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Brenda
