President's Message

What is the determining factor in a person's ability to meet their goals? Is it clarity, having a compelling vision of the exact goal with all the details specified? Or are goals met when clients connect their aspirations to their core values, their sense of purpose?

As coaches, we know that even with clearly defined goals built upon the foundation of what matters most; progress will falter without a clearly articulated plan complete with benchmarks and timeline. And, what about the people? It takes many focused and committed individuals to accomplish a compelling, valuable, clearly thought-out plan. The right team is essential in accomplishing a visionary goal. Lastly, leadership, both personal and group, is key to the ultimate achievement of a big goal.

Individuals and organizations achieve their goals more effortlessly with the challenging questions, strategies, support and accountability that the coaching partnership creates. As coaches, we are uniquely equipped to help our clients address all the essential factors to realize their goals. And as coaches, we step up to promote and grow our profession through the work of ICFP.

Once again, your ICFP Board and Committees need your involvement to plan and achieve our visionary goals. Many of you enthusiastically volunteered last month at the Member Engagement Fair. Thank you! If you were unable to attend that meeting and would like to volunteer, I encourage you to contact the VP or leader of the committee you wish to work with.

Our 2013 ICFP Conference Committee is especially in need of a great team to plan and create another exciting conference day of education, networking and inspiration. The team that works together plays and grows together! I promise you will have fun and build friendships that will last if you join the Conference committee. Please call or email me at 610-696-4443 or mrjgrow@verizon.net to discuss the role you want to play.

Lastly, at our May dinner meeting we will be holding our annual meeting. Don't miss this opportunity to hear about our achievements of the past year. To your success!

Dr. Annie McKeeWhat does the average coach earn? How many coaches are there? How many clients does the average coach have? What's our opinion of regulation? And, how do coaches in Pennsylvania compare?

This evening is designed as a starting point for the many important conversations we will all be having over the coming months and years. How can we, as coaches in the Philadelphia region, use the research to forward the vision of coaching, both within the organization and in our own practices? How can each of us use the data to build and market our coaching practice? In short: what does this study mean to YOU?

The presentation will compare some of the global results to our local Pennsylvania results. We'll engage in select activities designed to make the study alive and real for you personally. You will leave with some concrete ideas for using the results to advance the profession of coaching, within ICF Philadelphia and in your own work.

Cheryl Moen Vermey, Ed.D., CPCC, PCC, CTC is president of EnVision Coaching, Inc. where she provides executive coaching and leadership development to individuals and organizations. If You're Not Using LinkedIn to Get Leads - You Should!

Dr. Annie McKeeBy Lisa Tierney CLSC

There are many tactics you should employ to generate leads on LinkedIn. Following are three quick tools & techniques to get you started:

1. Complete Your Profile. Aim for 100% completeness using these tools:

*  An appropriate, professional profile photo to reflect the image you want to convey.

*  A summary about yourself and what you can (and will) do for your clients. be aware of the ratio of "you" vs. "I"

*  At least five skills on your profile. LinkedIn has standardized skills, and you can make your own. Once you come up with five, you will come up with more.

*  Full education and work history. Your past school mates, professors, instructors, teachers, bosses, supervisors and colleagues could be your next referrals and clients.

2. Update and Engage. Update your profile often and include any written articles, white papers, etc. You can also integrate power-point presentations, or video testimonials from happy clients. Include a link to your blog and update it regularly. You can join your Twitter and LinkedIn accounts but for more freedom consider HootSuite or Posterous to schedule your posts.

Engage with your connections so that you remain top of mind. A simple status update such as: Working on a new book about shoes... will be more effective by including details and a request for opinions: Working on a new book about women's shoes. Do you prefer heels or flats? Let me know and you could be featured in my forthcoming book!

3. Fish Where the Fish Are - In Groups! According to Alexa, LinkedIn is the 10th most visited website in the United States and the 12th most visited website worldwide. So there is a high probability that your target market is on LinkedIn - and most likely hanging out in a group. Want to reach Red Hat Certified Professionals in Iceland? There's a group for that! Interested in networking with early adopters of cloud computing in Sweden? That group is nearly 2,000 members strong.

Participate and comment in discussions, and start your own meaningful discussions. If you don't see a group that fits your interest exactly, create one and invite people to join! It's simple to do and you will have a rapt audience.

If you're interested in an individual LinkedIn training sessions at very affordable prices, I can be reached at (267) 470-4250 or at LisaTierney@comcast.net.
