President's Message

Dear

I hope you are enjoying great fun in your life while experiencing tremendous business success this month. This has been an interesting month with the concentration being on "focus". More clients, new and old, came to their coaching session with their top priority being greater focus in their business than ever before. I went to a seminar and one of the main ideas was One Focus, One Goal and this past week at my sons' karate studio the theme was FOCUS with the lesson for the week being - Follow One Course Until Successful.

At PACA, each year the board creates Strategic Objectives that are expressed usually in 3 words. For the past several years, these have remained consistent as Connection, Commitment and Collaboration. This has allowed us to follow one course so we are more and more successful as an organization.

Everything we do is with these objectives in mind. At a PACA dinner meeting, we create an atmosphere where members feel connected. Older members feel connected to their community of colleagues who are there to support, encourage and inspire one other. Visitors are greeted at the table, welcomed and encouraged to participate in the organization. We are motivated to connect early with new members and have them feel a sense of belonging to PACA. We are achieving this with the new members' orientation as well as the breakfast and lunch events. We will continue to host these and encourage new members to attend so they can become connected early.

We are also always looking for ways to collaborate. Members within PACA are creating wonderful projects and collaborations and as an association, we collaborate with other groups in the Philadelphia area. This was especially evident this past month at the Mega-Mixer event. This was not your everyday networking event. It brought people from eight different organizations together in partnership toward a common goal of creating connections and supporting one another. The atmosphere was elegant yet comfortable, the food tasty, and the conversations ranging from light to thought-provoking. There was a buzz of fun and enjoyment and cooperation throughout the room. The evening went by way too fast and many people did not want to leave. Many lingered; with conversations continuing outside the PNC building and attendees talking about how this event lived up to the pre-event buzz. Connection, Commitment and Collaboration was definitely at their best.

A special thank you is due to Sheree Butterfield, Tom Lombardi, Joanne Vitali, Maria van Hekken, Rosy Elliott, Jennifer Gleeson Blue and the rest of the team who planned the event. Thank you all!!!

Have a good month and I hope to see you on May 21st at the PACA meeting with Ken Zaretsky.

Wishing you a great month -
sue

New Member Corner -
Scott Blessing

Interviewed by Pat Weeks

A member of PACA since 2006, Scott Blessing, Founder of Inspired Leadership Now, is on a mission to help people develop the inner wisdom, strength and heart to become inspiring and trusted leaders. Scott transitioned from corporate America in 2004, having sold his interest in companies he ran for the prior nine years. With over 20 years of real-world executive management experience and a track record of substantial success as a CEO running three companies, Scott understands the pressures, relationship challenges and isolation leaders face.  He saw firsthand that many leaders feel empty, drained and unfulfilled, despite their success. The epidemic of concerns leaders face was deeply troubling to him and was being addressed in ways that were insufficient to create the meaning and sustainability they want. Scott realized there was a new kind of leadership and executive learning that needed to emerge to deal with these concerns.

This inspired Scott to create Inspired Leadership Now. By touching as many people at the top of the pyramid as possible, he could help thousands of others throughout the organizations. Ultimately, to accomplish this mission, Scott developed Promise-Based Leadership, the culmination of his life's experience, relationships and work in organizations.

Promise-Based Leadership is based on inspiring leaders to create fresh approaches and innovative ideas in complex situations where there are no easy and obvious answers. It is about how commitments shape and produce effective action which creates sustainable results. For him, this is "not just a coaching 'schtick' but about cutting through complexity and blind spots that address the things leaders care about and want more of in their lives."

Scott loves helping clients break through old obstacles and start playing a bigger game; calmly navigate turbulent situations; transform distrust into cooperation; and communicate clearly to generate commitment.

Given two free weeks of free professional development, Scott would rigorously train with one of these masterful thought leaders in the world in a multitude of practices that would pertain to the territory of emotions, somatics and the nonverbal:  Julio Olalla, Dr. Stuart Heller and Dr. Richard Strozzi-Heckler. Alternatively, he would also like to spend his two weeks experiencing African culture and dance or visiting an impoverished African village to deepen his learning of community, leadership, and cultural discourses.

Asked to name an accomplishment of which he is most proud, Scott responded, "Being a Big Brother to a young man for 10 years." This allowed him to touch a young man's life in a way that he didn't fully realize. However, following his little brother's high-school graduation, Scott receive an amazing, beautifully articulated letter seen through the eyes and heart of this young man, sharing the difference the relationship made in his life. Scott has always felt this Big Brother experience has probably been the best thing he ever did in his life.

Words to live by? Scott offers: "In the end what matters most in life is how well you live, how well you love and how well you learn to let go."
