Regardless of time (or the relative lack thereof), summer is, has always been, and will likely continue to be the "silly season" of business development and networking. Heat-induced laziness, out-of-school children, family vacations, and a curious urge to simply hang the "gone fishing" sign on our office doors all contribute to the flatlining of everybody's productivity levels. I encourage you to fight against the urge to assume that all networking and business development programs are on hiatus. The Chamber office is very active throughout the summer, providing our members with some great educational and networking events, including: another installment of our Brown Bag University, our monthly networking reception, and a Young Professionals Roundtable. Bring your sunglasses and boat drinks, if you must... but also bring some business cards, because the Chamber and its members are open for business, regardless of the lazy days of summer. Did you know that the VTRCC has its own TV station? It's actually a YouTube station, but close enough! Check out the latest episodes that could affect your business in one way or another... isn't your business worth the few minutes to learn what is happening in the region? The June 2012 show (# 3) featured Amanda Andere from FACETS speaking about the need for affordable housing in Fairfax County, and Dennis Johnson, Director of Public Works for the Town of Vienna talking about some of the projects that will be going on in Vienna. The July 2012 show (# 4) featured Mike McGurk from Transurban giving us all the information we need to know about the 495 Express Lanes (formerly known as HOT Lanes) before they open late fall-early December. There was also a short wrap-up in between the Transurban segments of the 2012 Business and Service Awards program.
