I dare say that most of our members, like me, joined the VTRCC with one clear objective: to drive more customers to their respective businesses. However, being a member of the VTRCC has value far beyond simply increasing your sales revenue. Businesses cannot run on customers alone. What about managing overhead? How do you manage your employees? What is the best way to manage your books? Are you paying an appropriate amount for office space? Is your business organized correctly? What are the tax implications for your business? The answers to these questions, and a myriad of others, are easily answered by resources available to all VTRCC members. Did you know that the VTRCC offers a Member-to-Member discount program (via its website: www.vtrcc.org) through which members can use the services of other members (and offer their own services) at discounted prices? Did you know that the VTRCC offers business education lectures through its Brown Bag University? Did you know that the VTRCC has two TIPS groups (i.e., networking) that meet every week and exchange information and leads? How about this one: Did you know the VTRCC offers an Rx discount card that is FREE to all members? Did you put an ad in the VTRCC membership directory? These are all benefits of the VTRCC that, as a member, you should be taking advantage of today. (Click here for more)

TYSONS NEWS: Bike to Work Day is May 18
Join District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia commuters and leave your car behind to cycle to work May 18 for Bike to Work Day 2012-a regional event that last year drew a record-breaking 11,000 participants. The first 11,000 bicyclists who register and attend will receive a free Bike to Work Day t-shirt and become eligible to win great prizes. Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) anticipate registration will again break records with both new and experienced cyclists taking to the streets to promote bicycling to work as a fun, healthy, environmentally friendly, and low cost alternative to drive alone commuting. Cyclists can join "commuter convoys" with experienced cyclists leading the way, and they can pedal to any of the 59 pit stops across the National Capital Region where refreshments, entertainment and giveaways will be part of the celebration. Cyclists can register, find pit stop locations and learn how to join a commuter convoy at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: Verizon
Success at Verizon is not measured merely by business performance. It's about a concept Verizon calls 'shared success.' There is more to Verizon's reputation than their performance in financial markets. It's the totality of their identity; the quality of their people; the value of their brand; and their standing in the community. Verizon's shared success strategy is about leveraging their corporate values to create economic and social value. They strive to share their success with the community to make the world in which we all live better than it was yesterday. In Northern Virginia, this commitment to community manifests itself across several key areas, including: education, family safety, healthcare, and sustainability. Through the Verizon Foundation they partner with a number of nonprofit organizations whose missions align with these key areas. Verizon has brought these strong values to the Chamber and has become a strong VTRCC supporter.
