Humble Beginnings
Create Your Dreams (CYD) began in 1994. At that time, the high school graduation rate was only 40% in the schools our students attended. In 1994, CYD's main goal was making sure our students graduated from high school.
Since then, 100% of CYD students have graduated from high school and 93% started a post secondary degree! Even more exciting - several of our alums are in grad school and one has earned her master's degree! With only 30% of our students having parents who are high school graduates, we are breaking the odds.
Glad we raised our expectations!

The "gift" of CYD
Along with providing academic direction and support, CYD nurtures our students dreams starting when they are in the 3rd grade. During difficult times, they look to us for stability, compassion and a sense of family.

Over the holidays, two CYD high school seniors and one college student comforted one
another as they discussed the stress of their lives and celebrated accomplishments. Topics ranged from the stress of applying to college to discussing the anxiety they experience daily in their homes and neighborhoods while surrounded by violence and poverty.
One of these high school seniors hung his head as we sang happy birthday. With sadness, he reported that his own family didn't even give him a cake. Something so simple, means so much.
They feel safe and loved when they are with CYD.
