Guiding your readers...

We often have people ask about book levels. Orca Book Publishers chose the Fry Readability level because it is relatively simple to understand and is a basic measure of word and sentence length. Here are Reading Level FAQs:

What does it mean when a book does not show a level online, on the book or in the catalog?

It means the book is an "at-level" title. We always list the age group the book is aimed at... [read more]

Hope this helps.

Shout out...

Cover of BenchedWe love hearing how teachers use Orca books in their classrooms. But here's a great idea for outside the classroom. Mary Jane Matcham from Spring Grove Intermediate School has made it easy for her students to keep reading this summer. She is sending all her students home with access to the new Orca Currents Digital Subscription. Every student has online access to titles in the series all summer long.

A new home for Elliot and Pierre...

He is both excited and terrified by the impending reunion - and so are we...Kerz is brilliant at describing these challenges from Aaron's perspective...It's a messy and far from perfect outcome for Aaron, but after spending time with his own messy imperfections, we wouldn't have it any other way."
