Manitoba Young Readers' Choice Awards...
 The nominees for the 2009 Manitoba Young Readers' Choice awards have been announced. When the Curtain Rises, a juvenile novel by Rachel Dunstan Muller has been nominated. The Globe and Mail said of When the Curtain Rises: "...a meticulously plotted mystery with supernatural overtones ... Muller hits all the suspense marks with ingenuity and agility."

Buttercup's Starred Review...
Buttercup's Lovely Day, a new picturebook from Carolyn and Andrea Beck, received a glowing starred review in the most-recent Quill & Quire.
The review said, in part, "...a read-aloud gem. The story is a clever, joyful, playful celebration of creative language, sound, rhyme, rhythm, and repetition...a prime show-and-tell resource."

Stellar Teen Award...
Red Sea, a teen novel by Diane Tullson, has won the Stellar Teen Book Award.
The Stellar Book Award is administered by the Young Readers' Choice Awards Society of B.C., who also
administer the Red Cedar Book Awards.
Booklist called Red Sea "An absolute page-turner." Looks like the teen readers of BC agree!
Red Sea also made the New York Public Library's list of "Books for the Teen Age" and the Tayshas Reading List from the Texas Library Association.

Forest of Reading...
The winners of the Forest of Reading Awards from the Ontario Library Association have been announced. Things are Looking Grimm, Jill, an Orca Young Reader by Dan Bar-el, has won the Silver Birch Express award. Lucky's Mountain, an Orca Young Reader by Diane Maycock was named an Honour Book in the same category. Pigboy, an Orca Current by Vicki Grant and Never to Be Told by Becky Citra, were named Honour Books in the Silver Birch category, placing second and third in voting. Jeffrey and Sloth, a picturebook by Kari-Lynn Winters and Ben Hodson, was an Honour Book in the Blue Spruce award for younger readers. More than 200,000 students across the province voted in six reading categories.

Arthur Ellis Award...
Crime Writers of Canada have announced their finalists for the Arthur Ellis Awards. Two of the five finalists in the Best Juvenile category are Orca titles. I.D., an Orca Soundings novel by Vicki Grant, and Racing For Diamonds by Anita Daher, both made the list. The winners will be announced June 5. This year marks the 25th anniversary
of the prestigious awards, named after the nom de travail of Canada's official hangman.

The Spanish are Coming...
The first four Spanish translations of best-selling titles in the Orca Soundings series are now in stock and shipping. De nadie mas (Saving Grace by Darlene Ryan),La verdad (Truth by Tanya Lloyd Kyi), El que diran (Sticks and Stones by Beth Goobie) and La guerra de las bandas (The Battle of the Bands by KL Denman) will be in print in April.
