Senator Mark Wyland was elected to the California State Senate in November, 2006. He represents the 38th Senatorial District, which includes the South Orange County cities of San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano and the North San Diego County cities of Bonsall, Camp Pendleton, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Escondido, Fairbanks Ranch, Hidden Meadows, Lake San Marcos, Oceanside, Rancho Santa Fe, San Marcos, Solana Beach and Vista.  Growing up in the city of Escondido, Fulbright Scholar Mark Wyland earned a B.A. in International Relations from Pomona College, where he is a current trustee, and an M.A. in Political Science from Columbia University. Mark Wyland first began his government service by sitting on the Escondido Union School District Board from 1997 to 2000. In 2000, he was elected to the State Assembly to represent the 74th Assembly District, until he was chosen by the people of the 38th Senatorial District in 2006 to be their voice in the State Senate.  Senator Wyland is Vice Chair of the Senate Business, Professions & Economic Development Committee and the Senate Labor & Industrial Relations Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations, Education, Governmental Organization, Veterans Affairs and Budget Committees.
