OCBC's OCMOVES PROGRAM HOSTS KEY TRANSPORTATION DELEGATES
SzabatIt has been a busy week for OCBC's transportation initiative OCMoves after hosting several influential transportation delegates including U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Transportation, Joel Szabat and Executive Director for the California Transportation Commission, Bimla Rhinehart.

Szabat updated OCMoves investors and political advisors with the inside scoop on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act - the formation of the program, terms for allocation of funds, and next steps for the Obama administration and Congress. Bimla provided an overview of state transportation programs, STIP and Prop. 1B allocations, and some new initiatives of the California Transportation Commission. Both speakers highlighted Orange County's position for high speed rail funding for the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) to LA's Union Station.

These influential meetings came a week after OCMoves hosted another top leader in transportation, U.S. Representative Bill Shuster (R-PA), who serves as Ranking Member of the House Transportation Subcommittee on Railroads.

WHITMAN SHINES AT OCBC CHAIRMAN'S LEADERSHIP BREAKFAST
Whitman2In a candid interview with OCBC Chairman Larry Buster, Meg Whitman--the former eBay CEO and 2010 California gubernatorial candidate--spoke to over 100 business leaders at OCBC's latest Chairman's Leadership Breakfast. Discussing everything from her upbringing in Long Island, N.Y. to joining the small start-up company of eBay over ten years ago, Whitman outlined her rise to success and what inspires her to run for the toughest gubernatorial job in the country.

"I refuse to let California fail," proclaimed Whitman. "We can turn California around, but it's going to take a different approach then what has been taken."

Looking ahead, Whitman touched on three priorities to help the state move more like a well organized business rather than an over regulated bureaucracy, including: jobs creation and retention, addressing the government's spending issues and K-12 education. [READ MORE]
DAY OF RECKONING HERE FOR CALIFORNIA BUDGET
Arnold OCBCThe Business Council applauds Governor Schwarzenegger's leadership in addressing California's budgetary straits to a joint session of the Legislature and constitutional officers last week, declaring "California's day of reckoning is here."

Digital text books, privately run correction facilities and flexibility at the local government levels were among the proposals suggested by Governor Schwarzenegger. He also addressed the elimination of several "redundant" state boards and commissions including the Waste Management Board.

The battle of wills now begins between legislature and the Governor about what to cut and the potential impacts of those cuts...

OCBC JOINS CARD CHECK ADVOCACY TRIP TO NATION'S CAPITAL
yesnoOn June 2nd and 3rd, Orange County Business Council accompanied the Fullerton and Orange Chambers of Commerce to Washington, D.C. to oppose the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). The measure - widely known as card check--would allow a union to form after enough workers in a shop sign cards, or petitions, rather than voting by secret ballot.

This quick, two-day advocacy trip sponsored by the US Chamber of Commerce brought over 150 small business owners, chamber members and constituents from around California to the Capitol on the opposite coast.

The delegation's consensus is that the seemingly well-intentioned bill has the potential to inflict costs, erode profitability, and decrease revenue for small businesses... [READ MORE]
