Everything's Coming up Strawberries

Spring is strawberry pickin' season across the U.S. and the regal hues of these aromatic, succulent little morsels, entice with their beauty long before savoring this scrumptious fruit.

Aside from the strawberries' delicious flavor and beautiful appearance, they are also high in anti-oxidants and are ranked as the 27th most beneficial foods for such. Rich in Vitamin C, and other valuable nutrients, this little ruby gem is medicinally beneficial and said to be effective in warding off cancer.

In our Strawberry Issue we've got tips on where to pick them, eat them, and even recipes to help you cook with them.  Enjoy!

"In Seven to Nine year-olds surveyed ~  over 53 percent
picked Strawberries as their favorite Fruit."

"The Sweetheart of American Trains"

Eleanor Robson Belmont once said, in what I imagine was her very British accent, "A private railroad car is not an acquired taste.  One takes to it immediately."

May Southern Belle

At the Southern Belle Restaurant in Heavener, Oklahoma, you'll be as delighted with this charming little diner as Ms. Belmont was with being treated worthy of her class. The Belle's notoriously notable menu, hosts an array of southern comfort food worthy of my dining hero, Guy Fieri's Triple D, Diner's, Dive's and Drive-Ins.

The Southern Belle, once a luxury passenger train on the Kansas City Southern Railway came whistling into Heavener for the first time in 1896.  By the 1940's the railway debutante became known as "The Sweetheart of American Trains."  The leisure car once made trips that spanned from Kansas City to New Orleans and carried pasengers a distance of 868 luxurious miles in 21 ½ hours. "In the Garden I tend to drop my thoughts here and there.

To the flowers I Whisper the secrets I keep and the hopes

Wild Things Farm
 May Wild Things Hat
Wild Things Farm in Pocola, Oklahoma is a bit out of the ordinary.  The Greene family, owners of Wild Things, harvests thousands of pounds of produce each year, all the while opening the farm up for a little something special. May Wild Things Farm
What makes this farm extraodinary is that they do all of the hard work and harvesting with a steady stream of tourists, school groups, educational tours and summer camps entwined throughout, from April through October of each year.
Wild Things produces a huge variety of garden vegetables, from cool crops like Asparagus and Strawberries, to warmer bearing crops such as peas, squash, sweet corn and tomatoes to name just a few.  This fruit and vegetable producing, goat and chicken bearing, pumpkin patching place of good things is a fantastic place to purchase your produce and teach your kids about life on a working farm.  Read More

The Kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God's heart in a garden,
