Kerry Johnson, Monroe County School System's network coordinator, was recognized as this year's ABCD (Above and Beyond the Call of Duty) Award. Kerry was recognized for his dedication, his professionalism, mentoring he provides to fellow employees, as well as his continued efforts to keep the system and school networks up and running successfully.

Leading Learner Summit reaches over 600 employees | |
Monroe County Schools kicked off the first day of a week-long Leading Learners Summit on Monday, July 30. The session is an internal professional development conference being led by Monroe County School staff for their peers and co-workers.
In all, 23 classes will take place during between July 30 and August 3 with 38 individual sessions being held. This involved 678 different employees of the Monroe County School System.
The Leading Learners Summit contained most of the professional development being conducted for teachers and staff during the coming school year, meaning School employees will spend even more time in their classrooms with students during the 2012-13 school year.

Monroe County Board of Education Recognizes Sheriff as Friend of Education at August Meeting |
| Sheriff John Cary Bittick was recognized as a Friend of Education at the August BOE Meeting. He is pictured with Mr. James P Evans, Vice Chair, and Mr. Anthony Pack, Superintendent. |
Sheriff John Cary Bittick of the Monroe County Sheriff Department has been nominated as a Monroe County Schools Friend of Education by Mr. Jim Finch, Principal of Mary Persons High School.
Mr. Finch wrote in his nomination about Sheriff John Carey Bittick:
"Sheriff Bittick and his staff provide educational opportunities in the school building as well as law enforcement services at the many extra-curricular events hosted at Mary Persons High. The Monroe County Sheriff's Department provides excellent service as a partner in the mission of our schools. Sheriff's deputies also accompany our events that occur out of town. Anytime our schools are in need of an immediate response to emergencies, Sheriff Bittick and his staff are quick to help out. During our prom season, the department also provides an educational series on safe prom activities and has helped Mary Persons High School obtain grants that help fund our prom. The Sheriff's Department's quick and efficient service continues to allow our students and community to enjoy school activities in a safe and comfortable environment. It is our hope that this partnership will continue to flourish in the many years to come." |

Monroe County School System helds its Teacher Induction Program the week of August 6. Over 30 faculty members and paraprofessionals participated in the training which including a bus tour of Monroe County, sessions on professionalism and dress code, curriculum expectations, and behavior supports.
