SPECIAL TEACHER OF THE YEAR RECOGNITION EDITION
Mrs. Rebecca Pack is the
Monroe County School System Teacher of the Year
Mrs. Rebecca Pack is Monroe County's Teacher of the Year (Mrs. Alicia Elder, KBSutton Principal, Mrs. Rebecca Pack, 2011-2012 TOTY, and Mr. Anthony Pack, Superintendent). |
Congratulations to Rebecca Pack, the system Teacher of the Year for 2011-2012. Mrs. Pack is a fourth grade teacher at KBSES. In her philosophy of teaching, Ms. Pack wrote: "Without a relationship, it is impossible to be an effective teacher. It is my belief, that being a teacher is only one of the hats that I wear. I am also a nurse, psychologist, cotillion director, mentor, disciplinarian, mother to some, and policewoman to others. With all these hats, the relationships that I have are all different. The reason: all children are individuals."
"We all very much appreciate the different hats that Mrs. Pack provides for the children that she teaches each day. Congratulations to all school level winners in Monroe County," stated Dr. Mike Hickman, Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Middle & High School Education.
Monroe County School System has a system policy which guides the Teacher of the Year selection process. Each school has a committee composed of the principal, current Teacher of the Year, and another certified employee selected by the school Leadership Team. This committee selects 3-4 candidates from the school-considering the criteria from the state--to be placed on the ballot. The certified personnel at the school vote to select the Teacher of the Year for the school.
After each school Teacher of the Year is selected by the teachers of the school, the candidate is asked to complete an application for System Teacher of the Year. This application includes seven different areas. External judges from other counties score each application. The results were tallied to determine the system winner.
