Parents, Guardians, and Community Stakeholders of MCS:

The Monroe County Board of Education met last night in a called meeting.  The Board's agenda included several major items.

- The Board of Education held a public hearing regarding proposed voter district lines prior to the official called meeting.

- In the meeting, the Board of Education voted by a majority to accept the new voter districts and send those proposed voter districts to the Georgia Legislature, as is legally required, for approval.

- The Board of Education tabled the decision regarding middle school consolidation until its February 21st meeting.  Because of pending possible retirements and other related personnel issues, the Board of Education is making this decision after optimal time for collecting personnel changes, and this will also be the regular time of year that the Board of Education accepts personnel recommendations, transfers, and retirements for the 2012-2013 school year.

The January 24, 2012 Called Board of Education Meeting agenda is found at: https://eboard.eboardsolutions.com/Meetings/ViewMeetingOrder.aspx?S=4117&MID=23739.

The community dialogue on this issue has been productive as the board seeks a decision which will be in the best interest of all students.  We thank you for your input.

Respectfully submitted,

Anthony Pack

Superintendent
