Reading Writing Extravaganza

Best in Show

Reading Writing Extravaganza was a smashing success.  Our halls were filled with characters--from lions to ladybugs, porcupines to Peeta. Our halls were buzzing with excitement as students waltzed across the stage during our Parade of Characters, spent time enjoying DEAR time in class, and waited with anticipation to see their original writing emerge from the publication room.  Laurie Cockerell was our visiting author.  She read from her book entitled "Founder's Fables" and helped the students write their own fable using the writing process. If you would like a copy of "Founder's Fables" return the order form from your Monday envelope. In the words of Dr. Seuss, "The more you read, the more you know.  The more you learn the more places you'll go!"

Legacy Lane

Grace Academy has dedicated the  Moayedi Family Portico to Mehrdad, Pamela, Sarah and Lily. The unveiling markes the beginning of a new journey for Grace Academy. You can now leave your family legacy by purchasing a family stone or personalized paver. The stones are sandblasted by hand, a process that our students saw first hand on Wednesday. If you would like to be one of the first to leave your mark on Grace Academy, click below to get started.

Family Stone: $2500
Personal Paver: $275

Historical Lesson

The second grade is studying pioneers and we had the opportunity to get some hands-on pioneer experience at the Farmers Branch Historical Park. We toured log cabins, looked through old fashioned stereoscopes and visited a pioneer school room.

What a great field trip!

Excited shouts of "¡arriba!" and "¡abajo!" ("up high!" and "down low!") will fill the courtyard of Grace Academy all day Thursday, May 4, as blindfolded students hit a piñata filled with candy. Spanish classes (grades K5 through 6) will celebrate the Cinco de Mayo holiday by breaking a piñata and enjoying snacks provided by the moms, including a special Cuban dessert donated by Rita Banos. Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. In Mexico it is celebrated only in the state of Puebla to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. (The most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico, Independence Day, is September 16.)

All parents are very welcome to join us for this fun celebration.

Grace Family Night

Snow cones, cotton candy, hotdogs and more were enjoyed by Grace families on Saturday night. Deuce, the mascot, made a special visit to Grace students in the stands. Thanks for coming out to the Dr. Pepper ballpark to cheer on the RoughRiders!  Grace Family Night was a homerun.
