KGB 3-Mile Walk

NAIA Fall Collegiate Classic

Tourism and its Sports Council are preparing for the NAIA Fall Collegiate Classic Golf Tournament October 28-30 at Link Hills Country Club.   The event will include a welcoming reception on Sunday evening after the official practice round, two full days of great golf, and then an awards luncheon to follow on Tuesday afternoon.  To volunteer for this event, or to be a sponsor, contact Tammy Kinser at the Greene County Partnership, tkinser@greenecop.com.

Farm-City Banquet

Third Annual CenturyLink Faith In The Future Awards

Don't forget to submit your nomination for the CenturyLink Third Annual Faith in the Future Awards.  Businesses and individuals from Carter, Greene, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington (TN and VA) are invited to participate by nominating businesses and individuals that demonstrate a commitment to the future of their businesses, their employees, their communities and the region.  Deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, October 5, and the awards luncheon will be held November 8.  Email Heather Hill at hill@johnsoncitytnchamber.com to request an application.

 

Landair Ladies' Classic Sponsorships

Beef Day Celebration Is A Big Hit!

More than 200 people attended the Beef Day Celebration Friday, September 14, at the Greene County Fairgrounds Livestock Pavilion.  It was hosted by the GCP Agribusiness Committee to recognize and pay homage to the beef producers in Greene County.  Many thanks to Chairman Connie Kilday and all the sponsors and volunteers that helped make this event a success.  Thanks also to Leon Bird for letting us include Beef Day Celebration with the Greene County Antique Farm and Auto Show.

Survey Will Help Improve STEM In TN

As part of a statewide evaluation of the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network, the Tennessee Consortium on Research, Evaluation, and Development at Vanderbilt University is conducting a survey for the purpose of improving STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education in the state.  Visit  www.surveymonkey.com/s/STEMbus to participate in the survey.

 

Tourism Update

International Housekeeping Week

The Tourism Department celebrated International Housekeeping Week September 9-16 by judging participating hotels in eight different categories.  The winner of  Pillow Amenity, Amenity Display, Towel Display, Best Bed Display, Visitor Information Display, Sheet Folding and Best Dressed Housekeeper was Jameson Inn of Greeneville and the Jameson Inn Grime Busters.  The winner of the Meeting Space Presentation was Comfort Inn of Greeneville.  For the fourth year in a row, Tourism has also selected Housekeeper of the Year from the nominations that were received.  The winner of the 2012 competition was Penny Lane of the Jameson Inn.  Judges for this year's competition were Rhonda Humbert of the Green Coat Ambassadors and Nicole Rader of Holston Home and also of the Green Coats.  The Tourism Department and the winners of the festivities have been featured in Executive Housekeeping Weekly, a publication of the International Executive  Housekeepers Association.

 

Buggin' For A Cure Is A Success!

Tourism, along with the Northeast Tennessee Volkswagen Association and the Greene County Fair Association, hosted the Buggin' for a Cure VW Car Show this past Saturday and Sunday at the Greene County Fairgrounds.  More than 200 cars from 10 states participated in the show, along with 40 regional/local crafters, eight VW parts vendors and eight food vendors.  The Andrew Johnson Pavilion was all abuzz with entertainment and dance performances.  Tourism hosted the refreshment tent as a fundraiser for advertising and promotion.
