Beef Day Celebration

The Agribusiness Committee is preparing for the Beef Day Celebration, scheduled for Friday, September 14, 6-8 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds Livestock Pavilion. Many contests, entertainment and free beef products to sample will be available as Greeneville and Greene County pay homage to the beef producers. Sponsorships are available. Beef Day is held in conjunction with the 17th Annual Greene County Antique Farm & Auto Show scheduled for September 14-16 at the fairgrounds. Buggin' For A Cure

The Tourism Department is working with the Northeast TN VW Association in preparation for the "Buggin' for a Cure VW Car Show" that will take place September 22-23 at the Greene County Fairgrounds. The event will feature entertainment, dance, crafters, car vendors, games, and VWs from across the southeast. Tourism will have a refreshment booth at the event to raise money for the program. Last Call For Golfers!

The Partnership's 19th Annual Golf Shoot-Out will take place Thursday at Link Hills, promising a relaxing, enjoyable day of golf on the links with friends and business acquaintances. Approximately 100 golfers had made their commitments to the tournament as of newsletter press time. The cost for a team in the tournament is $600 ($150 per player) which includes greens and cart fees, lunch, dinner and beverages during play. Vacation Guide Is Almost Ready

The Tourism Department is finalizing the 2012-2013 Greene County Vacation Guide and locator map. The brochure, which will be printed in a quantity of 65,000, is one of the fulfillment pieces for all inquiries that come into the Chamber via email, phone, walk-ins, website visits, and from ads placed by the Tourism Department in publications such as the Tennessee Vacation Guide, American Road Magazine, Civil War Magazine, America's Civil War, Smoky Mountain Living and many more. The Tourism Department is also finalizing the new "Antiques and Treasures" brochure, as well as the new relocation bags.

AAU Golf Was A Success
|
The Sports Council hosted the AAU Golf National Championships at Link Hills July 19-22 with 51 junior golfers from six states and Canada. The event was a great success, creating an indirect economic impact of $150,000 for our community. Special thanks to our sponsors: Food City, DTR, Consumer Credit Union, US Nitrogen, American Greetings, Premium Waters, Coca-Cola, Marsh Petroleum, Greeneville Express Mart, Wal-Mart, and Greene County government. Dates are already being discussed for the 2013 event with a goal of tripling the number of athletes from across the country.

DTR's Vice President Appointed Executive Officer of TRI

The Partnership would like to congratulate Randy Rumbley on his recent appointment as an executive officer of Tokai Rubber Industries, the parent company of DTR Tennessee, Inc. Rumbley is the first overseas member of the Japanese company's executive team, which is equivalent to an American company's board of directors. Rumbley is senior vice president of DTR Tennessee and is a past chairman of the Greene County Partnership.

The Tennessee Small Business Development Center at East Tennessee State University will be offering potential entrepreneurs several training classes at the Partnership in August. Classes will be: "So You Want to Start a Business," Wednesday, Aug. 8, 1-4 p.m. (free); "SBA Borrower's Workshop," Wednesday, Aug. 15, 9-11 a.m.; "Writing Your Business Plan," Wednesday, Aug. 15, 1-4 p.m. ($20 fee); "Research for Business Planning," Thursday, Aug. 23, 2-4 p.m. ($10 fee); "Small Business Tax Workshop," Wednesday, Aug. 29, 9 a.m.-noon ($5 fee); "Employer Tax Workshop," Wednesday, Aug. 29, 1-4 p.m. ($5 fee). Local Manufacturer's Receive Awards

Two local manufacturing companies have received state awards for safety from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. DTR Tennessee Inc., is one of 12 companies in the state that have received the Governor's Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health. John Deere Power Products is one of six companies in the state that have received the Commissioner's Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health. The Partnership congratulates both companies and appreciates their dedication to excellence.
