July 26:
Summer In-Service

Greeneville City and Greene County school systems educators will be participating in a daylong in-service on Thursday, July 26, hosted by the Education & Workforce Development Department.  Educators will tour two local industries and have an opportunity to meet with plant managers and human resource representatives to identify specific skills students will need to enter the workforce.  The deadline to register is Monday, July 23.  For more information, contact Kelly Burrell at  638-4111 or email kburrell@greenecop.com.

 

 
July 27: 
Teacher Supply Depot

The Teacher Supply Depot will host its summer opening for Greeneville City and Greene County teachers on Friday, July 27, 1-4 p.m. in the Medical Office Building No. 2 at Laughlin Hospital.  Teachers must have their school identification badges to enter the depot.  Members of the Greene County Youth Council and Greeneville High School volleyball team will be on hand to assist the teachers with shopping.  For more information, contact Kelly Burrell at kburrell@greenecop.com.

 

 
August 14: 
Membership Breakfast

Invitations will be going out soon for the August Membership Breakfast scheduled for Tuesday, August 14, at 7:30 a.m. at the General Morgan Inn and Conference Center.  The sponsor of the breakfast will be Walters State Community College.  The cost of the breakfast is $3 with reservations and $8 without.  Please RSVP to 638-4111 or email to gcp@greenecop.com.

 

 
September 22-23: 
Buggin' for a Cure 
VW Car Show 

Plans are underway for the Buggin' for a Cure VW Car Show on September 22-23 at the Greene County Fairgrounds.  More than 25 vendors have already signed up to participate as well as five food vendors and more than 50 cars.  The event will feature entertainment, fun things for the kids, and plenty of Volkswagen Bugs.  Hotel rooms are already being booked for the show.  The Tourism Department is a co-sponsor of the show, along with the Northeast TN VW Association, Relay for Life and the Greene County Fairgrounds.  For more information, contact Tammy Kinser at tkinser@greenecop.com.

Gearing Up For Golf Shoot-Out

Hole sponsorships are available for the Partnership's 19th Annual Golf Shoot-Out August 2 at Link Hills Country Club.  For the $175 sponsorship, a business or individual will have a sponsor sign on a hole at the course.  Door prizes valued at $25 or more are also being requested for distribution during drawings at the dinner that will follow the tournament.  The cost of entering a team in the tournament is $600 ($150 per player) which includes lunch, dinner, greens and cart fees and beverages during play.  For more information on the tournament or to obtain a registration form, contact the Partnership, 638-4111, or email vandrew@greenecop.com.

 

KGB/CenturyLink Telephone Book Recycling Contest Deadline

July 27 is the deadline for the Keep Greene Beautiful/CenturyLink Telephone Book Recycling Contest.  Phone books should be collected and taken to the Partnership office at 115 Academy Street.  Those who wish to compete in the contest should fill out forms before depositing their old phone books in the recycling bin.  The first place winner will receive $150 and second place, $50, provided by CenturyLink.

 

Tourism Update

 AAU National Golf Championships

The Sports Council is preparing for the AAU National Golf Championships that will begin this Thursday at Link Hills Country Club.  Players from across the country and Canada have signed up to play and have reserved rooms at our local hotels for the event.  The public is welcome to attend.  The event is sponsored by Bridgestone, Food City, DTR, US Nitrogen, Consumer Credit Union and American Greetings.  For more information on the event, or to sign up your junior golfer to play, contact Tammy Kinser at tkinser@greenecop.com.

 

NAIA Fall Collegiate Golf Classic

The Sports Council is planning the NAIA Women's Fall Collegiate Golf Classic for October 28-30 at Link Hills Country Club.  Three teams from around the southeast have already signed up and booked their rooms for the event.  The official practice round will take place on Sunday, October 28, with the tournament beginning on Monday.  The final round and an awards luncheon will take place on Tuesday.  The event is sponsored by Food City and Radio Greeneville.

DTR Recognized For Quality

The Partnership would like to congratulate DTR Tennessee, Inc., a manufacturer of anti-vibration and hose products for the automotive industry, on receiving two distinguished customer

awards for 2011, including the Honda Quality Award and the Toyota Excellent Quality Award.  The Honda Quality Award was presented to DTR for ranking in the top 15 percent in quality performance and above average in delivery performance.  The Toyota Excellent Quality Award was presented to only 13 suppliers out of more than 500.  Visit
