NAIA Host Family Appreciation Reception

The Sports Council will celebrate the success of hospitality shown during the NAIA Golf Championships by recognizing its host families with an appreciation reception Wednesday, June 6, at the Parks and Recreation building. More than 60 locals gave of their own time and money, and welcomed teams into their homes during the week-long event. The council feels that the host families are what made the event most memorable for the 145 players, their coaches and families.

June 13: Appalachian Athletic Conference
| |
The Sports Council will host the Appalachian Athletic Conference "Council of Presidents" on June 13 at the General Morgan Inn. Fourteen college presidents will be given tours of Greeneville/Greene County's sports facilities while the Tourism Department escorts their spouses on tours of area attractions. This will be an important opportunity to showcase Greeneville and entice the presidents with our ability to host future championships.

June 26: Workplace Violence Seminar
| |
Walters State Community College is offering a daylong seminar on workplace violence on Tuesday, June 26, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The course will be held at the Greeneville Campus in room 100. Course fees are $175 and include lunch. Discounts are available for groups of employees from the same organization. Industry Appreciation Reception

Congressman Phil Roe will be among the speakers for the brief program during the Partnership's Annual Industry Appreciation Reception June 14 to honor local industries for their contributions to our community. Invitations have gone out to local industrial management teams, regional leaders, board members and elected officials. Attendance at the reception is by invitation only. 2012 Faith In Future Awards

Don't miss the opportunity to garner recognition for your business/industry through the CenturyLink Third Annual Faith in the Future Awards. These awards will recognize businesses and individuals that demonstrate a commitment to the future of their businesses, their employees, their communities and the region. Businesses and individuals from Carter, Greene, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington (TN and VA) are invited to participate. June Dairy Days Was A Success!

More than 500 people attended the June Dairy Days Celebration that was held last Friday night at the Greene County Fairgrounds Livestock Pavilion. This event was hosted by the GCP Agribusiness Committee to recognize and pay homage to the dairy farmers in Greene County. Many thanks to Chairman Betty Love and all the sponsors and volunteers that help make this event happen.

Greeneville Named 2012 Playful City USA Community

Greeneville is among 213 cities and towns to earn recognition from national non-profit KaBOOM! as 2012 Playful City USA communities for their efforts to increase play opportunities for children. Presented by The Humana Foundation, Playful City USA is a national program that is a key platform in combating the play deficit. This recognition allows Greeneville to qualify for $15,000, $20,000, and $30,000 grants via Let's Play, a community partnership led by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, to get children and families active. Grant recipients had not been announced at press time.

NAIA Women's Golf National Championship Winners

The Sports Council would like to congratulate Victoria, British Columbia, on its win of the 2012 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships. The tournament, which was held at Link Hills Country Club, concluded on Friday, May 18, with a close finish and many fans, families and teams gathered around the scoreboard. The council would also like to thank the sponsors without whom this event would not have been possible, the staff at Link Hills Country Club and the many host families that made this tournament an unforgettable experience.

First Class Hospitality Recognized!

Tourism celebrated National Tourism Week by presenting three "Presidential Pioneers in Hospitality" Awards to those individuals that were nominated by their peers for going above and beyond the call of duty to make locals and guests feel welcome. The winners are Angela Ebbert with Greeneville Light & Power, Rachel Morrison with the General Morgan Inn and Brenda Grogan, County Commissioner. Congratulations to our winners and thank you for your service to our community and our guests.
