May 4:
Free Electronic Recycling

A Free Electronic Recycling Day will be held Friday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Wal-Mart SuperCenter, 3755 E. Andrew Johnson Hwy.  Electronics will be accepted from local residents, businesses, industries and schools for one day only.  Items that will be taken include televisions, computers, monitors, peripherals, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, microwave ovens, telephones, cell phones/pagers, video game consoles, PDAs, radios and stereos and VCRs and DVD players.  For more information, call Jennifer Reynolds with Keep Greene Beautiful.

Membership Breakfast

Invitations have gone out for the May Membership Breakfast scheduled for Tuesday, May 8, at 7:30 a.m. at the General Morgan Inn & Conference Center.  The sponsor is CenturyLink.  The cost of the breakfast is $3 with reservations, $8 without.  Make your reservations by Friday, May 4, by calling 638-4111 or emailing gcp@greenecop.com.

It's Iris Festival Time!!!

The Partnership will be hosting the 18th Annual Iris2011 Iris Festival Festival Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20, in historic downtown Greeneville.  The hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.  In addition to the wide array of arts and crafts that will be available for purchase, there will be two entertainment stages, the Kids' Korner, the Merchants' Market, the food court and two special seminars on proper planting, propagating and hybridization of iris.  Several events have already been scheduled in conjunction with the festival, including the "Blood, Sweat & Tears World Tour" at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m.  So mark your calendars and plan to join the Partnership staff and volunteers downtown May 19-20.

Advertising Available On Tourism's Relocation Bags

Advertising spots are still available on Tourism's relocation bags that will be used for materials distributed to those looking to move to this area via jobs, retirement, etc.  The bags will also be used at all of the sporting events that Tourism's Sports Council will host this year, as well as reunions, meetings, conventions, etc.  If your business is interested in supporting this effort at a cost of $250, please contact Tammy Kinser at tkinser@greenecop.com.

 

Tourism Needs Your Input!

The Tourism Advisory Task Force is hard at work and they need your feedback.  The task force is currently asking all members to inventory their "Favorite Things to do in Greeneville" and email them to Tammy Kinser at tkinser@greenecop.com.  This inventory will be used for future advertising materials, as well as printable on the website and given to all hotels to supply to their guests.  Your input is very important.  

 

Host Families, Volunteers And Sponsorships Needed For NAIA

Teams are already booking rooms for the 2012 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships coming to Greeneville May 14-18.  The Sports Council is working diligently on recruiting host families, volunteers and sponsorships for this event.  During the week, the women athletes will also join local businesses such as Holston United Methodist Home for Children, Free Will Baptist Family Ministries and a host of local churches in working with students/youth, running clinics, etc.  If you would like to volunteer to work the event or to be a host family, please contact Tammy Kinser at tkinser@greenecop.com.

Memorial For Tornado Victims

The Camp Creek Ruritan Club has erected a monument in remembrance of those from Greene and Washington counties who perished in the tornadoes April 28-29, 2011, and will be hosting a "Day of Remembrance" to honor both the victims and the thousands of volunteers that have helped in rebuilding the communities.  The event will begin at 3 p.m. with a dedication/memorial service, followed by a groundbreaking for the Camp Creek Ruritan Memorial Building.  The public is invited and is asked to bring lawn chairs.

 

Drug Take Back This Saturday

A "Drug Take Back" event will be held by the Volunteer Center, water department, police department and Drug Enforcement Administration on Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will be collecting prescriptions that are no longer needed. No needles will be accepted. Contact Mary Fitzpatrick at 639-9341 for more information.
