"Buggin' For A Cure" | |
Tourism is teaming up with the Northeast Tennessee Volkswagen Association to host the first annual "Buggin' For A Cure" Car Show at the Greene County Fairgrounds Saturday, September 22, and Sunday, September 23. Plans are underway to have entertainment, food, crafts, and automobile vendors. Proceeds from the event will benefit Relay for Life. Sponsors will be the Greene County Fair and many other fine businesses. |

Summit Benchmarks Being Addressed | |
The Education & Workforce Development Committee is taking an active role in addressing education "gaps" in our local workforce. Chairman Vicki Kirk and other committee members have met with local education, business and community leaders and state legislators in the past few weeks to communicate the adult education needs within our community and explore options for providing additional classes to address those needs. These efforts stem from the Education & Workforce Development Summit held last November. |

Job Shadowing Is Almost Here! | |
The Education and Workforce Development Department has placed 148 local high school students in 73 businesses for the upcoming Job Shadowing Day Friday, April 20. Job Shadowing is a project of Upper East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia Junior Achievement. |

Hot Summer Sports Lineup | |
"Ready, Set, Go" is the theme for Tourism this year with all of the sporting events that it will host, beginning with the NAIA Women's Golf Championships in May. The Gus Macker 3 on 3 is coming our way June 23-24 and will take place in the parking lot of the former Wal-Mart building on 11-E. Sponsorships are available and volunteers are needed. The event will host teams from ages 8 to 80 and will provide great competition and fun. Bringing Back The Old Oak Festival | |
The Old Oak Festival is returning to the Tusculum College campus April 19-22. The arts and music festival will span four days and will feature something for everyone, including music, art, theater and poetry, as well as gallery and museum exhibits on the campus. The festival is being coordinated by a committee of college and community representatives who are working to bring the historical event back as a major arts and music event in the East Tennessee region. Walk/Run Challenge To Benefit The Wounded Warrior Project | |
Laughlin Memorial Hospital is proud to announce its support of the Wounded Warrior Project through a "5K Cross Country Walk/Run Challenge" at the Clyde Austin 4H Center on Saturday, May 5. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the challenge starting at 8:30 a.m. The cost is a $15 donation in advance or $20 at the site and all proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring and empowering wounded veterans.
