Hagerty Reports On Haslam's Reorganization Plan

  Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty met with upper East Tennessee economic development professionals on February 23 to provide a one-year report on the governor's reorganization plan. Commissioner Hagerty said the administration has reduced the budget by more than $2 billion. As it relates to his department, he reported that they have 44 percent fewer employees than a year ago, but 77 percent more of the people on staff are working with prospects. The commissioner also pointed out that the State of Tennessee debt per capita is the second lowest in the nation and bodes well for future business recruitment as companies seek states that have their fiscal house in order.

  The Tennessee Small Business Development Center at East Tennessee State University will offer several training classes for potential entrepreneurs during March. Registration is required for all classes which will be held at the ETSU Innovation Laboratory in Johnson City.   The Tourism Department is printing promotional bags for the relocation packets that are handed out to those looking to relocate to our area through the Chamber, realtors, hospitals, etc.  If you are interested in promoting your business on these bags at a cost of $250, please contact Tammy Kinser at tkinser@greenecop.com.  Space is limited to the first 20 businesses so email today to get prime placement.

Sponsorships And Ads Available

  Sponsorships are available and ads are now being sold in the 2012 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship program.  The event, May 14-18 at Link Hills Country Club, will host more players, parents, coaches and fans than last year, thus placing more heads in beds and increasing national exposure for our community.  If you or your business would like to be a sponsor or place an ad in the program, contact Tammy Kinser at tkinser@greenecop.com.

Tourism Makes Final Cut For

Baseball Championship Bid

  Tourism and its Sports Council has made the final cut for hosting the 2013-15 NJCAA Division III National Baseball Championships.  Tammy Kinser and Tom Ferguson will be flying to Colorado Springs, Colo., on March 28 to make a personal presentation to the NJCAA Board.

Third Annual Career Connections

  The Center for Technology's Third Annual Career Connections will be held on Thursday, March 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The goal is to bring industries, medical facilities, and schools together to help students and their families explore career possibilities by promoting awareness of local and regional businesses, resources, and educational opportunities. 17th Annual Parenting Fair

  The Greeneville-Greene County 17th Annual Parenting Fair will be held Saturday, March 17, at Hal Henard Gymnasium from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature more than 100 exhibitors distributing free information and materials, Funville inflatables, free TCBY yogurt, fire truck and rescue squad vehicles on display, and much more! Admission is free and there will be prize drawings all day long. This is a cooperative project of the Greeneville and Greene County school systems and Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
