Economic Development Update

US Nitrogen Permits Approved

Two federal water permits were issued last week for the proposed US Nitrogen plant in western Greene County, completing all the environmental regulatory approvals needed for construction of the plant. The issuance of the permits also means that there will soon be nearly 100 workers on site and that number will rise to nearly 200 at the peak of construction. It is expected to take 18-24 months to build the facility. When completed, the plant is expected to employ 80 full-time workers, with an annual payroll of about $4 million. The company will spend in excess of $20 million per year on natural gas, water and electricity supplied by local utilities. Read the full article regarding air permits here. J&J Warehousing Expands

J&J Warehousing & Storage, Inc. announced an expansion last week that will add 37 new jobs for welders over the next three years. The creation of these new high-paying jobs is in response to another local company's need to outsource its growing welding operations. J&J's expansion allows for the unnamed company to meet their needs without having to go outside the county, state or country, thus keeping much-needed jobs in our community. The Partnership was instrumental in facilitating discussions with the State of Tennessee which helped generate more than $700,000 in incentives.
