Residential Holiday Lighting Contest: December 13-16 | |

Keep Greene Beautiful's Annual Residential Holiday Lighting Contest, sponsored by Greeneville Light and Power System, will be held December 13-16 from 6-9 p.m. Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, difficulty, detail, visual impact and beauty. The community has been divided into six geographical areas for judging and the winner in each division will receive $50 cash. Entry forms are available at the Partnership. Deadline for entry is December 12. |

Job Shadowing: February 3 | |

Would you be interested in mentoring a high school student for a day? Greeneville and Greene County high school students have turned in their applications to job shadow on Friday, February 3, 2012, and the Education & Workforce Development Department will be calling local businesses and industries to place students in job shadowing positions, allowing students to gain incredible amounts of information and knowledge in career fields they are interested in pursuing. If you are interested in hosting a student or students on Friday, February 3, please contact Kelly Burrell at the Partnership. |

Seventh Annual Antique & Appraisal Fair: February 18 | |

Tourism is planning for the Seventh Annual Antique Appraisal Fair scheduled for February 18, 2012, at Greeneville High School. More than 40 antique dealers will be selling their treasures, along with 10 appraisers assessing the value of antiques brought in by the public at a cost of $5 each. Summit Brings Leaders Together | |
The Education & Workforce Development Department hosted a summit on November 28, which was attended by 37 education and manufacturing leaders from Greeneville and Greene County. The event was facilitated by Millie Calloway with TVA. The mission of this first summit was to bring education and industry leaders together in an attempt to bridge the gap between graduation from high school and preparation for immediate entrance into the workforce. Great Deal: Landair Ladies' Classic | | Although advertising sales for the Landair Ladies' Classic have concluded, Patron sponsorships are still available at a cost of $110. With this sponsorship comes two tournament passes, hospitality room privileges and reserved seating. At this point in time, listings on the sponsor board in the gym and in the program will not be available, but the tickets and meal privileges during the tournament are a real value at that price. General tournament passes will go on sale next week at the Partnership at a cost of $26 per pass. The tournament will be held December 27-30 at Hal Henard Gymnasium. Sports On The Brain? | | Tourism's Sports Council has been very busy working on sporting events for 2012-2013. The Council recently sent in a "Request for Extension" for the 2013 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships and is currently meeting with John Sullivan, Commissioner of the Appalachian Athletic Conference, and Frankie DeBusk, Athletic Director at Tusculum College, on the 2013 AAC Men's and Women's Basketball Conference Championships. Tourism will also host Mark Miller with AAU this month to tour baseball and softball facilities prior to our bidding on the 2012 Southeast Regional Championships. |

Gearing Up For Gus Macker | Tammy Kinser attended the Gus Macker National Conference in Olean, NY, last week. Some of the items discussed at the conference were website, registration and social media for promoting the event, recruiting teams and sponsorships, as well as the process of building a community festival around the event. This event will take place June 23-24, 2012, with a goal of 150-200 teams from a 200-mile radius. The Sports Council has already started working with local lodging facilities, restaurants and volunteers. Special thanks to Mayor Alan Broyles and the County Commission for their support of this event. Sponsorships are available at a cost of $300 to $5,000.
