Shoot-Out: Aug. 4

The entry fee is $600 per team or $150 per individual and includes lunch, greens fees, golf cart, complimentary beverages during play and dinner. Hole sponsorships are available at a cost of $175. Anyone interested in providing door prizes or items for the goody bags should contact the Partnership as soon as possible. Registration forms are available at the Partnership. Summer In-Service for Teachers: July 28

  Are you a Greeneville City or Greene County teacher looking for in-service credit? The Education & Workforce Development Department will be hosting its annual summer in-service for teachers on Thursday, July 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at Hal Henard Elementary School.  The in-service will feature tours of local industries as well as meetings with plant managers, human resource managers, and company presidents.  To register for the in-service, please contact Kelly Burrell at 638-4111 or email

Membership Breakfast: August 9

Breakfast

   Invitations will be going out in the next week for the August Membership Breakfast on August 9 at 7:30 a.m. at the General Morgan Inn & Conference Center. Teacher Supply Depot: July 29

  Free school supplies for teachers!  The Education & Workforce Development Department will be hosting the summer opening of the Teacher Supply Depot on Friday, July 29, 2-5 p.m., in Medical Office Building No. 2 at Laughlin Memorial Hospital. The depot will be open to all certified teachers employed by the Greeneville City and Greene County School Systems. Teachers must bring proper identification to shop in the depot. Deadline For KGB/CenturyLink Telephone Book Recycling Contest

Phone Book Recycling Contest July 29th is the deadline for the Keep Greene  Beautiful/

CenturyLink Telephone Book Recycling Contest. Phone books should be collected and taken to the Partnership office, 115 Academy Street. Those who wish to compete in the contest should fill out the forms before depositing their old phone books in the recycling bin. The first place winner will receive $150 and the second place group, $50, provided by CenturyLink.

2011-12 Youth Leadership Participants

  Forty-six local students have been selected for the 2011-12 Greene County Youth Leadership Program that begins this fall. Students from Chuckey-Doak High School are Melinda Bowman, Alexa DiBella, Rowdy Jones, Gavin Long, Kevin McAmis and Marshall Nagy; from Greeneville High School: Savannah Campbell, Brandon Chapman, Chandler Christopher, Brittany Cobble, Ashley Duckworth, Nicholas Evans, Drew Fezell, Kaleigh Forte, Baylie Foulks, Meredith Freshour, Katie Green, Alyssa Hamilton, Haley Helton, Briana Hensley, Jaheen Hira, Jordan Hite, Meredith Hull, Rachel Mawyer, Parker Mitchell, Emily Morrell, Ben Ogle, Candice Rai, Betsy Shaw, Tessa Shupe, Lincoln Taylor, Kayla Thornton, Josh Tillery, Martha Wells, Andrew Whitaker and Lauren Yakubic; from North Greene High School: Adam Kirk and Breanna Morrow; from South Greene High School: Justin Brown, Maci Brown, Kylea Cordwell, Hayley Crum and Laura Gibson; and from West Greene: Clarissa Smith, Richard Vradenburgh and Megan Westmorland. Filling Inquiries From Recent Ads
  Tourism is filling 2,799 inquiries from Spring and Summer ads in American Road magazine.  The mailer will contain a flier offering great discounts from area businesses, including Applebee's, Comfort Inn of Greeneville, Express Wine & Spirits, Hampton Inn, Hemlock Hollow & Paint Creek Café, Little Top Drive Thru, Dickson-Williams Mansion, Main Street: Greeneville, Antiques Etc., and Greeneville Farmer's Market. August 3 Press Launch For ARC's 'Civil War: The Home Front'

  The Tourism Department and the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site will host a press launch for the Appalachian Regional Commission's Civil War: The Home Front, a map guide to Appalachia, on Wednesday, August 3, at 11 a.m. on the lawn of the Andrew Johnson Early Home on College Street. Attendees will include Tennessee Commissioner of Tourism Susan Whitaker, Dr. Carroll Van West with MTSU, and Edwin Grosvenor, publisher and CEO of American Heritage Magazine. Developed to observe the 150th commemoration of the American Civil War and boost tourism in the Appalachian region, the map guide showcases the diversity of Appalachia's Civil War heritage attractions. Regulation Reform Survey 
   We all know that government regulations create one of the largest financial and productivity burdens on business and industry today. Through Gov. Bill Haslam's leadership, the Department of Economic and Community Development has asked the Tennessee Chamber to reach out to you to gather input on what you think of our state's regulatory climate, what you think about specific state and federal regulations and how you think it could be streamlined or improved. Their goal is a top-to-bottom review of Tennessee regulations with the goal of eliminating unnecessary regulations and of creating a more favorable business climate. Please take time to complete the survey. This is a unique opportunity to have direct input that can change how business is done in Tennessee. Craft/Music Festival Benefits Charity
  Plans are underway for the 2011 Children's Miracle Network Craft and Music Festival that is being organized by Wal-Mart Distribution Center.  The festival will be held at the Greene County Fairgrounds Saturday, October 1, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with 100% of the proceeds to be donated to the Children's Miracle Network benefiting area children's hospitals.  Anyone interested in participating as a vendor or a musical talent or in performing demonstrations should contact Deana or Sherry at 423-235-3305 or email drgilli@wal-mart.com.  Interested car clubs are also encouraged to call or email these Wal-Mart contacts.
FREE Small Business Support Program
  If you own a business or have a great idea for one, this program is for you! Tusculum College is offering a 10-session course for Small Business Support between September 22 and December 8. Topics include increasing profits, creating a business plan, expanding your network and improving practical and interpersonal skills. Each entrepreneur will receive a certificate of completion.
