Ever wondered how close you are to reaching your ideal weight target?
Rowena, Your Bikram Yoga Teacher is studying to be a Nutritionist and Naturopath.
Sometime in the near future she will be offering her services (at no cost to you).
She will work out your:
- BMI (Body Mass Index) and let you know what weight range that puts you in
- "Healthy" Ideal body weight.
You will need to know your correct Weight and Height
She will also work out how much Protein Intake your body needs to function at its best.
Protein is an essential part of our daily diets. It is important for growth and repair and keeping the body in an anabolic state. it also helps provide energy.
Many people have WAY TO MUCH protein in their diets (especially meat eaters!) Too much Protein puts a major strain your kidneys (which is the filtering system of your body). Excessive protein is very acid forming in the blood and will create excess uric acid which will speed up the ageing process not to mention put you at a much higher risk of disease.
On the flip side. Not enough Protein (Vegetarians must be very conscious of eating the right amounts of protein - which is relatively easy once you have the education!) can contribute to muscle wastage, anxiety, exhaustion, delayed wound healing, irritability and other complications.
Protein levels can be checked through pathology (by looking at the Albumin levels)
You can also enter your daily food intake and have it analysed online and see exactly how much protein, carbohydrates (essential for fibre and energy) and Fats (essential for hormone function, neurotransmitter synthesis, mental behavoural patterns, healthy cellular membranes.)
Ideally your diet should consist of
Carbohydrates: 50-60% (Vegetables, fruits & whole grains such as brown rice, Quinoa, Millet, Oats - not processed & refined!! )
Fats: 20% (nuts, seeds, avocados, fish oils, high quality oils such as olive oil, macadamia oil, coconut oil, home made Ghee is also a good source)
Protein: 30-40% (Legumes, beans, fish, chicken, meat, eggs)
