About The Gist of Freedom

A Book About Faith, Family and Justice

The Gist of Freedom

The Gist of Freedom is Still Faith is a book about William Still and the intricate network of the Underground Railroad. William Still was the Black abolitionist from Philadelphia who was described by the New York Times as "The Father of The Underground Railroad," and who financed and commissioned Harriet Tubman's rescue missions. Abolitionist William Still literally wrote the Underground Railroad book and is the ancestor of author, Lesley Gist-Etheridge. The book, The Gist of Freedom traces several tremendous people and stories within the world of the abolitionist movement and the Underground Railroad.

When Lesley Gist encountered the chance to present a blog talk radio show, she knew it would be an amazing opportunity. In her ten-year genealogy research journey for The Gist of Freedom is Still Faith, Lesley Gist met a wealth of people and

William Still Book

stories that could not all be contained in her book. And so this meeting place affords Lesley the ability to introduce the remarkable people she has met to you and all friends of African-American heritage.

Visit Lesley Gist at her blog talk siteThe Gist of Freedom Blog Radioevery Sunday at 6pm for a live topical panel discussion, and any time to post a comment, listen to recent shows, and to see what other people are saying about issues of African-American heritage and cultural preservation.

The Gist of Freedom is Still Faith tells the story of William Still and Peter Gist. Their story is now a part of the National Park Service's National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom!

Learn more while you listen! View a flyer about interviewer Gist-Etheridge's book. Read the complete book online.
