Eighth Grade Gratitude for Cedar Springs

At our "rainy day" assembly on November 18, the Eighth Graders presented something they put together, a speech piece to express their feelings of gratitude as they approached Thanksgiving Day.  The only parameter they worked with was that it had to be about our school and community.  Here is what they shared:

I am grateful for:

"...the basketball program."

"...all of the activities and field trips that support our learning."

"...the Administration, Staff and Faculty that keep the school running so well."

"...the time our teachers take to prepare our lessons."

"...a kind and loving class teacher."

"...my awesome friends."

"...Mr. Taylor's microwave oven."

"...teachers who bring us food and treats."

"...the physics and chemistry blocks in the Upper Grades."

"...the community's support of our fundraising efforts."

"...the wide perspective on the world that Waldorf brings you."

"...the music program."

"...the whole community and their dedication to the school."

"...THE TEACHERS....all of them!"

"...my siblings and my friends."

"...teachers with a sense of humor."

"....hot lunch days.

Thank you all, from our hearts to yours.   We have great gratitude for where we are and what we are doing, RIGHT NOW!

THE CSWS CHILDREN'S STORE IS COMING:  December 16

ENVELOPES DUE TO YOUR TEACHER:  December 15

Dear Parents of First through Fifth Graders,

The Cedar Springs Children's Store is one of the most memorable events of the year and is rapidly approaching on Friday, December 16.   During the school day, children from Grades One through Fifth (no grown-ups allowed!) will enter through a magic doorway to find the wonders within.  This holiday gift shopping experience is designed just for them.  The younger children will be accompanied by Angel Guides from the Eighth Grade.  Gift wrapping will be provided by the Sixth and Seventh Grades.  The older children may shop at the end of the day after their duties are done and will not receive a flyer or envelope.

A few notes to help your children enjoy their visit:

  • Please use the envelope that will be sent home on December 8to create a list of people for whom your child will be shopping.  For example:  Mom, Dad, Grandma Sue, Dan (brother, 8 years old), etc.  Please remember that the Children's Store is a delight for your child if the list is short and simple.
  • There is a $25.00 maximum spending limit per child, and while most of the items are $2 or $4, no item is more than $8.  Money will be exchanged for tickets (it's more fun), Angel Guides will help with the budget, and change will be placed in the envelope and returned to your child.  Older children (Sixth - Eighth) will manage their own finances and choices-and gift wrapping may not be available for them.
  • Please put your child's name on the envelope, enclose up to $25.00, tuck in the envelope flap (do not seal), and return the envelope and list to your child's teacher by Thursday, December 15.

Thank you to everyone who has come forward to help prepare for the Children's Store with donations and other offerings of help and assistance.  It is an honor and a pleasure to provide this service to the community on behalf of the lower grades.  If you have questions, please contact the Eighth Grade teacher, Mrs. Elder.

New Dinner Format

More Tickets Available

Last year due to our sit down dinner format we were limited to 160 guests, but this year we can have up to 200.  Invite your friends and family!

Tickets can now be purchased online on our Enchanted Forest Auction Webpage.

Gift Cards will also be available for purchase at the CSWS Holiday Market or through the Development Office.

FUNDRAISING

eScrip Mall

Shopping Online for the Holidays?

You can earn Cedar Springs Waldorf School some extra cash while you shop.

How?  Well, it's super easy, and it doesn't cost you anything but a few seconds of your time.  When you shop online, take those few seconds to click on the eScrip Online mall link before you head into your favorite online retailer.  You can find that link on each Update, and it is also conveniently located under the giving tab at the CSWS website at www.cedarspringsonline.com.  Once you've done that, you're ready to shop.  With over 1000 stores (including Amazon, REI, Magic Cabin, and the Apple Store) you should be able to find one that suits your needs.

Automatically use eScrip for all your online shopping: Cedar Springs doesn't have to miss out on any more contributions with eScrip's free webApp called AutoEarn.  Once the app is installed on your computer, every time you shop directly at one of eScrip's online family of merchants, you will be notified that the store is a CSWS contributor.  You can learn the store's contribution level instantly, and also what coupons are available so that you can save yourself some money too.  You won't have to remember to enter through the school website or log in to eScrip before you shop again.  Doesn't that sound easy?  For more information about AutoEarn , go to http://shopping.escrip.com and click on the AutoEarn button on the top right corner.

One last reminder, eScrip is not just for gift shopping.  You can make your travel plans through eScrip, too.  Many hotels are part of eScrip's family of merchants, and you can book your room online and CSWS will earn.

Support Cedar Springs by supporting those businesses that give back to us.  This includes our wonderful brick and mortar grocer's such as Nugget, Safeway, Raley's and SaveMart as well as the online retailers.

A special thanks for those of you who have signed up for new Scrip cards this year.  If you have any questions about your cards or any of these programs, please feel free to contact me at  Sabinakeller@att.net or at 530-621-3372.

Thanks, and have a great holiday!!

Gifts-in-Kind

Gifts in Kind Holiday Wish List

The Cedar Springs Waldorf School is blessed with a community that is rich in skills, abilities and materials. Generous individuals from a wide berth of professions have donated goods and services to our School.  From the roofs over our heads to the play structures in our yards to this very website, our School has benefited greatly from the donation of goods and services from professional architects, builders, attorneys, accountants, consultants, artists, and a host of other crafts-and trades-people.  While gifts-in-kind are most common in our School Auction in the form of donated prizes offered for auction, other forms of gifts-in-kind are always most welcome and greatly needed.  A partial HOLIDAY WISH LIST is below:

  • Bathroom faucet with two handles
  • Materials at Diamond Pacific Lumber-Redwood for playground project-          (66) 2" x 6" x 8 feet and (12) 4" x 6" x 8 feet boards
  • Fifteen yards of woodchips
  • Rosemary and Heather plants from the Front Yard Nursery - one gallon size or purchase a gift certificate - $25, $50 & $100.

Please contact Scott Krieger in the school office at 530-642-9903 before purchasing any of the materials listed above.

Any of these gift certificates are more than welcome throughout the year as Gift-in-Kind Donations:

Don't forget if you have already donated an item to the school, please turn in your receipt(s) to the school office so we can account for your Gift-in-Kind.

Blessings,

Teresa G. Crowley, Fundraising Coordinator

E-Recycling to Support CSWS

Need a few more tax deductions before the end of 2011 and clean out unwanted electronics?  As part of our school's e-Recycling Program, CSWS accepts old:

  • cell phones
  • lap tops
  • iPods
  • ink jet toner cartridges for recycling.

Please place all items in the green electronic recycling container in the School Office.

We also have a vehicle donation program through Donation Line, one of the largest and most respected vehicle donation centers in the US.  If you have clear title to your vehicle -- whether it's a car, boat, truck, RV, motorcycle, jet ski or snowmobile -- just click the Donation Line logo on the Giving page of our website to start the simple process of donating your vehicle or call 1-877-227-7487.  Because Donation Line is a national company, friends and family all over the US can donate their vehicle and benefit CSWS!  One family called Donation Line and their vehicle was picked up two days later.  It's that easy!

Winter Break Schedule - Why the Change?

As we approach our Winter Break, families are checking the school calendar and I have been asked why the Faculty scheduled our break differently than in years past.  Each summer when setting the calendar for the coming year, the Faculty consults with our sister school, Sacramento Waldorf School.  Often families and/or faculty have students attending there as well and we try, when possible, to sync up our schedules.  This year our break not only coincides with that of SWS, but has the added benefit (for families with students in the local high schools) of syncing up with the three local high schools, as well.

Additionally, our current Winter Break (for the first time that I can remember) allows both our Faculty and community to enjoy the complete Holy Nights prior to returning from break.  The Holy Nights are those 12 days beginning on Christmas Day and ending on January 5th.    There are those that view these days as offering a sacred time for personally reconnecting, renewing and recharging one's self in anticipation of the New Year.

As your Faculty, we wish you all health and happiness with family and friends over the coming break.

Paula ThompSon, On behalf of your Faculty
