Scholastic Book Fair Begins 10/1
It's our favorite time of year: half days, conferences and the Scholastic Bookfair! We hope you will take time to stop by the library with your children when you are on campus. Proceeds from the book fair are the main budget source for our library. Lakeview students benefit twice through their purchases! Details about the bookfair, including dates, hours, special events and the new "online" component can be found on the Lakeview/Scholastic Homepage. For those of you who can't make it to campus, check out the new online shopping link. Pass the link on to family and friends so they can shop, too! All online purchases will be delivered to Lakeview for distribution. Please plan accordingly. Looking forward to seeing you Monday, 10/1 thru Thursday, 10/4 at the book fair!

Why Join the Lakeview PTSA
Get Connected. There is no better way to know what's happening in your school.
Tap into a Network. PTSA events provide opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, build rapport, and discuss parenting issues that are on your mind.
Speak Up. Because the PTSA is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions and more effectively suggest a change at your child's school.
Help Your Child Succeed. The PTSA fosters parent involvement. Parent involvement has been proven by three decades of research to be the greatest predictor of student success.
Witness Improvement. By getting involved at your child's school, you'll be part of the solution, helping to make positive changes. The PTSA plays an important role in fundraising to provide enrichment programs, curriculum-based programs, and school-wide social events that foster community.
Be a Role Model. By becoming a PTSA member, you'll be demonstrating the importance you place on your child's education.
The membership fee is $16 per person or $25 per family. To join, use this link to download the PTSA Directory Membership & Donation Form

Battle of the Books/Global Reading Challenge
Lakeview students in 4th and 5th grade are invited to participate in either or both of these exciting reading competitions this year! This will likely be the last year we conduct both competitions, as our pool of participants has decreased since losing our sixth graders to the middle school. Both programs have been introduced to all 4th and 5th graders during their library classes, and a meeting was held at lunch recess on Tuesday, 9/18 to provide students an opportunity to ask questions and sign up to show preliminary interest in participating in these programs.
Parents can find more detailed information on the Lakeview website under the enrichment section of the library tab. In a nutshell, both programs require the team (not each participant) to read 10-12 titles from now until January. Both competitions generally take place in February and March. Battle of the Books takes place in school, during the school day. Global Reading Challenge takes place in school until a team becomes "champ" for the school, and then continues with meets outside the school day when competing against other schools in the county. Global Reading Challenge also entails some optional morning practices throughout the month of January.
By now, you should have an email with the links to this information through our Skyward message center. If you have questions or need further information, please feel free to email Mrs. Jensen, or stop by before or after school.
