Every young scientist at Lakeview had a chance to SHINE this week! Monday, during all lunch recesses, the First Annual Egg Drop was held! This event was set up to bring out the scientist in our community as a kick off to the Science Fair held Thursday. Out of a total of 128 egg contraptions that were brought to school, 75 survived! Such a great showing of all the up and coming scientists in our school!
A HUGE thank you to Lakeview parents Rainier Huber and Emily Staples, and Lakeveiw staff Jaime Tiffany and Rachel Pemble, along with the Lakeview Instructional Team, for their passion toward making this vision a reality for everyone at Lakeview. It was truly a day to remember! Throughout the year the Lakeview Science Instructional Team has been working in concert with parents to coordinate the Science Fair events.
KUDOS to the following Lakeview parents- Rainier Huber, Emily Staples, Cheryl Geel, Frederieke Adriaanse, Alison Sheffer, Christy McGlynn, Laura James, Agustina Reisman, Laura Stewart, Lorien Stott, Jon Jaksha, and Rachel Viets, and the Science Instructional Team- Jaime Tiffany, Rachel Pemble, Meighan Lailey, Rayna Gibson, Ann Burton, Brad Coulter, Dori West, and Alyssa Anderson. Are you ready?
Monday, April 23, 2012 is the first day of the Marathon!
What: The 6th Annual Lakeview Marathon is an all school- all grade level fitness activity that challenges students to complete 26.2 miles (the distance of a marathon) jogging and or walking around our playfield during their lunch recess during the months of April, May, and June.
Why: Research indicates exercise increases academic performance. Lakeview students have the opportunity to improve their cardiovascular development, practice goal setting, and participate in a structured social activity with students from other grade levels.
How You Can Help: Parents and community members responded to a Messenger email request for volunteers and will record laps on a classroom chart, move runners on the bulletin board, and distribute beads earned once each week for their child's class. Thank you Marathon Room Parent Volunteers!
Who: Parents will be a vital key to the success of the Lakeview Marathon. Please encourage your child to participate in this recess activity. Please help them plan to wear shoes for running/walking and comfortable clothing on running days. Email Mrs. Knight if you have any questions at NKnight@lwsd.org.
When: The 6th Annual Lakeview Marathon takes place during April, May, and June 2012. LWSD does not allow extra curricular activities on MSP Testing dates, so please listen to morning announcements to find out the daily running schedule. Students will learn about the marathon in PE classes from Wednesday, 4/18 to Friday, 4/20 as part of their instruction about cardiovascular fitness/endurance. Running will begin Monday, 4/23. Go, Leopards, go!
Thank you!
