Dear Lakeview Families and Friends, Last week our building Safety Committee, made up of parents and staff members, met to discuss several items. Safety at Lakeview is our #1 priority and we spent most of our meeting talking about the traffic safety in the upper and lower parking lots as students arrive and are dismissed. The highlights of our conversation are listed below:
UPPER LOT CONTINUES TO BE CONCERNING We have noted that there is still a great deal of traffic leading to congestion and unsafe driving in the upper lot. Several incidents were cited where students were dropped off along the rock wall rather than at the main drop off area, two cars almost colliding as one rushed to get into the lot first, and the police noted 15 cars last Thursday who took a left-hand turn out of the lot during morning the drop-off time. We are going to be working with the Kirkland Police Department to ask for their help in evaluating our school traffic flow and make recommendations that they feel would best support our #1 goal- STUDENT SAFETY. I will keep you informed as we gain more information.
LAKEVIEW SAFETY UPDATE ON THE LOWER LOT *Thank you to all Lakeview parents and students for your patience while adjusting to the changes in the lower lot Drop-Off/Pick-Up area. We are now at 20-25 cars moving through in 10 minutes at both the Drop-Off and Pick-Up Zones (even on rainy days).
*A HUGE thanks to parents for all your help with this safety concern. In addition, we have found a more organized and smooth flow thanks to all your help!
*The students are also doing an excellent job by staying in line and waiting for their ride in the "yellow" area. Parents, it would be very helpful if you could follow through on this expectation at home by reminding students to wait in this area.
*An extra thanks to Mr. Brad Coulter and the Lakeview Patrols who help with monitoring and helping everyone understand and adhere to these safety rules. You are all terrific! The main recommendation of the Safety Committee is to remind parents to use the lower lot, rather than the upper lot. We hope you can all consider the positives we have found with the modifications that have been made to allow for a more smooth traffic flow in the lower lot. We're excited about this positive change and hope you'll start getting in the habit of using that lot to support STUDENT SAFETY in our school.
Additionally, we strongly welcome and encourage parent involvement in our Safety Committee. Please consider joining us. We generally meet the second Friday of the month from 8-8:45 AM. If you are interested in attending, please let me know! It would be great to have added perspectives to our meetings.
Sincerely, Principal Rothaus |
