Dear Lakeview Families and Friends, Thank you parents for making the time to attend our Goal Setting Conferences in October. We are pleased to have 97.5% of our parents in attendance of these conferences. The important dialogue you, your child and teacher have in this conference provide an opportunity to reflect upon your child's current academic/social progress, collaboratively set goals, and discuss home/school strategies which support your child's growth in meeting grade level standards. I want to thank you as parents for your continued support reinforcing what your child is currently learning at school within the home setting as a result of this partnership you share with the staff at Lakeview. Strong and ongoing communication between home and school is essential to your child's continued success. This fall our faculty has developed academic learning goals which will provide a clear direction for our school's work toward improvement throughout the year. These goals were identified after the faculty reviewed Lakeview's student performance on a variety of assessment measures, including the Measurement of Student Progress (MSP) from last spring, and our Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) for the 2011-2012 school year. The CIP goals we are focused on this year are: Math: Students will increase their math problem solving skills. Reading: Students will improve reading comprehension skills. When analyzing text, students will support ideas with information and details from selections (making text-self and text-work connections). Writing: Students will strengthen and develop their expository writing ability by increasing frequency of expository writing experiences. Science: Students will develop inquiry skills through participating in frequent opportunities to use the Scientific Method in their investigations. These CIP goals are the central focus for planning all professional development activities at Lakeview during the year. The time we have to work together as professional colleagues on these school goals is during the LEAP (Learning Enhancement Academic Planning) time each Wednesday afternoon, as well as the three days provided throughout the year. We greatly appreciate your support of our work on these days. We are proud of the partnership we share with our families and encourage you to bridge the work related to these goals between home and school whenever possible. Our PTSA has been extremely supportive of our work toward the achievement of the Lakeview CIP Plan. Examples include the purchase of an on-line math program for grades K-6 (called IXL) and providing classroom grants for teachers such as a "Physics of Sound" presentation, science boards for the Science Fair, Math and Literacy Games, class sets of calculators, and an additional license to expand Accelerated Reader to first grade. Thank you again for your continued support of our students. We are grateful for our continued and meaningful partnership. Sincerely, Shawna Rothaus |
